Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I would assume that it the extra ease brake attachment that comes on huffys so you can brake from the flat part of the bars

Either that or the shifter. Maybe you just like extra knobs and levers, who am I to judge?

i made my first fixie with out brakes and i just kinda had to learn how, at first i was scared to do the lean forward skid. so for about a week i would just backpedal and resist the bike since i didnt have brakes. then i learned how to skip the back wheel. what i did was i went to an alley and found some loose gravel and would try it slow there. after only about 15 minutes of doing that i was able to do the lean forward.

don't worry a skilled rider doesn't need to skid or skip
tires are expensive why wear em out as fast as possible

master skipping/skidding (with both feet) with a brake before going brake-less. also learn hockey stopping, fishtail skids, and 180 skids. it took me about 6mnths before i went brake-less. once you learn how to do that. get comfy with not using your brake while riding (even though you have a brake) then when you feel ready go brake-less.

its ok. when this thread gets used for reference years from now, that fuji track will be indicative of who was riding what in 2007. if somebody posts their stock bike, somebody else should be able to post theirs too.

I like that picture of the Fuji.
Some bikes (mostly entry level track bikes) come across as less glamorous or not quite as enchanting as actual bicycles. On an aesthetic and esoteric level they are easier to think of or relate to as "sports equipment."
