Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Figured I'd post this. It's my first fixed gear, and sadly it's a conversion because I dont have a job right now. I got the frame, fork, stem, and handlebars for 10 bucks. The headset and BB for free from a mtb on craigslist. The bartape was 6 bucks (I was really bored and tired of not being able to do anything with my bike). Tomorrow I'm headed to a used bike shop to see if they have some cheap cranks and a chainring. And on wednesday I'm getting my wheels. Please be kind, it's a beater meant for commuting to a university in the winter. I ride my road bike currently and am quite tired of finding new scratches on it daily. Yesterday I lost a bar plug! How does that even happen?

har har. it's for my political philosophy class. Currently I'm distracting myself from reading an incredibly dry and pedantic book on the origins of political philosophy.

The Oedipus Cycle is a pretty good collection. Of course, Oedipus Rex is the better of the collection.

Hey, I was only kidding...no need to throw S.A.T. words at me.
Just in case it was a manual...I'd compare it to learning how to ride a bike by reading about it...might as well just hop on and, um, peddle?

my god. given what Oedipus Rex is about, that is possibly the most disturbing thing you could have said.

a warning to anyone looking at tireflys, they bull****ted me for like 3 months, telling me my order was about to ship over and over. i finally asked my credit company to do a chargeback, and received them 3 days later.

still a work in progress...
Fuji espree. - i haven't looked up the year yet.
built it from scratch pretty much... original parts right now: BB - frame - fork - stem
all else is new to the bike.

need to replace: front caliper, saddle obviuosly.. this is a crap saddle tossed on just to get it riding till i figure out what i'm putting on it.

needs bar tape but outside of that, really fun to ride...

45:17 geared.
sun rims and continental tires...
er idk what else to say about it..

what do you think?
this is my first build project and it's still got a little bit of work to be finished..
i'm in the process of stripping the decals as i type.

target has them for like 8.53.

for 53 cents, that seems like a nobrainer. beware of limited stock/color choice though.

hehe, not really. I've gotten two internships to go work on the hill and I turn them down because I know if I start on the hill I'll never leave.

The fork is not bent, maybe ever so slightly. I'm going to the Recyclery today to pick up a crank. I'll see if they have a better one.
