Quick Question.

For some reason the search option's not working. I built up a bike for a christmas gift. It's a single speed and my question is....is just a front brake ok, or will you really fly over the handle bars when you brake hard. I only have enough parts to have 1 brake. what's going to be more effective (front or back) assuming that only 1 brake on a single speed isn't ideal.

thanks, jdb

Nah man, get yourself some rear brakes, youll need them both on a SS, until you learn how to weight back anyways, if you were rockin a FG then youd be OK as you use the backward motion to slow yourself down along with the front brake and eventually you would learn to stop even without the front brake good luck forgot to mention, ignore deathhare, I dont know what he responded to your post (I got him on ignore ) but its usually some thing stupid or his futile attempt at trying to down someone or some other dumb ****

brake.

well lets just say. assuming i can't spend any more $$ on this project and i have one brake and so on... front or rear? This is for someone who once rode a lot and now doesn't own a bike. The lay of the land is pretty flat.

Thanks, JDB

Bikes: bfssfg iro--black.

i personally think he doesn't give a ***** if people ignore him on an interenet message board.
with that said: you'll be fine with front brake only, unless you don't know how to properly brake in which case you'll learn real quick.

Having the brake on the front will give you more braking power than having it on the rear.

a rear brake shouldn't cost you much at all. $25 for used brake and cable, maybe? you could probably do it for less if you looked around.

front. it won't kill anyone if they're smart about using it.

You know, posting about how you have people on ignore is kind of childish and immature.

And where was this "Do you have deathhare on ignore" poll? I guess I missed it.

DH's one of the reasons I keep coming back here.

If you are only going to have one, make it the front. That said, I think freewheel bikes that lack a back brake are just dumb on multiple levels.

If you truly didn't give a ****, you wouldn't mention it at all. Just sayin'.

And yeah, run that brake on the front. When you get some extra coin, set up a rear brake too.

Yeah, but deathhare talking **** in just about every post he's ever replied to isnt? do me a favor dude, go argue with someone else about this ****, and remeber that you may be angry about what I posted (that happens to be true) but after you calm down and relax and toss it around in your melon its still going to be the truth, if you dont like what Ive got to say you can always place me on ignore

edit: if you want to actually talk to real human beings about FG/SS, you have to go to RBR. just saying, it's good to diversify.

if your going to use a front be careful because if that b1tch locks and the front wheel skids there is really no way of recovering and your face will be in the pavement. it happened to me turning a corner going like 15. never again

If you can only do one, do the front. Under normal conditions I rarely use the rear.
