Is that a Bareknuckle with rear cable guides?

Moximitre 12-29-07 12:48 PM

yeah, it's kinda wacky

eddiebrannan 12-29-07 04:02 PM

yeah but the op's not trying to set up a barspin bike. he's using 650 wheel AND fork, more like a diy pursuit bike.

dutret, what if he used a 650 road fork, thereby negating the additional rake?

You first bizarre statement about rake I disregarded as a typo and tried to interpreted in the most sensical fashion I could. I think it's clear now that you don't know what the **** you're talking about. Negating additional rake??? carefully and clearly try explain what you mean by this.

Putting a 650 fork on in addition to the wheel makes matters worse since it is lowers the front end even more(often more then twice as much). Getting a very low or no rake fork can counteract the lost trail that a stupid steep head tube will produce. It will however worsen some of the other issues of a steep headtube.

The misuse of the term pursuit bike by ignorant hipster ****s is one of my pet peeves. This in no way makes a DIY pursuit bike as the bike would be pretty much unusable for pursuits even if it was allowed. DIY funny bike yes but the vast majority of pursuit bikes built have not been funny bikes and probably most funny bikes are not pursuit bikes.

where did you get that white 650 from ?

Moximitre 12-29-07 07:08 PM

its a machined deepV powdercoated

eddiebrannan 12-29-07 07:58 PM

dutret you know FULL WELL i meant the increased rake of a road fork counteracting the potential decreased trail caused by the change in ht angle if simply substituting a shorter fork of the same rake as the one the bike was designed for. don't work yourself up so — i thought you southern boys were more relaxed. it's really not a big deal. have it your way though. your insults and childish pedantry grow tiresome.

That penguin thing is not funny and makes you nycfixed guys look like a bunch of elitist @ssholes. The thing I don't get though is that you're looking down your noses at people who think that seattube mounted brake levers are silly. This isnt the same thing as not knowing who obree is, but of course you know that right? So, what the ****? care to explain?

No I thought I knew what you were talking about here:

when I thought you typed rake when you meant HT angle. But then you wrote this:

and I realized I was wrong and that you were either being incredibly unclear or had no ****ing clue what the words you were using meant. Then you wrote this mess which makes it clear that not only do you not understand the words but you don't understand the basic concepts either.

doesn't the bike have a road fork already?
Wouldn't you want to decrease rake to counteract the potential decrease in trail due to steepening the HT and the wheel size?
Think about what you're trying to say then express it as clearly as possible and then maybe I can correct some of your misconceptions.

HT angle :: the angle between the HT and a line extending horizontally in front of it.
rake :: the offset between the dropouts and the axis of the steerer tube measures perpendicularly to said axis.
trail :: the distance between where the tire meets the road and were the axis of the steerer tube would.

remember when none of these jackasses thought that trackstands would ever happen on the track since you would never want to go slow in a race.

dutret,
you know about 10 nyc posters are being called on cell phones right now.:) theyre rallying. rushing to the coffee shops with wifi! starting up their computers. logging on to BFs and coordinating their mass response.
did you see hackers? its kinda like that but their rollerblades are under the bed now and theyre on pista concepts with 650c front wheels.

eddiebrannan 12-29-07 08:27 PM

i couldn't agree with you more mander, but you KNOW that thread had descended to altogether new lows that don't involve dumbass lever placement nor excessive fondness for electrical tape. that whole despicable business with the bareknuckle girl, for example. i saw a bike today with risers and an inline lever mounted right next to the stem instead of by the grips where god and reason demands they be placed and thought "duh," but the fact is that thread fosters ignorance instead of holding it up to ridicule.

the penguin thing came about because i received a warning from the powers that be here for calling someone a condescending prick. i then posted on the ny board as follows:

"getting chastised for calling someone on bf a condescending prick is like getting a warning at the penguin house at the zoo for saying, "look, penguins."

and it just kind of took off from there.

but i say again mander, that thread brings out the worst kind of internet groupthink. there's a really good, valid reason that most of SF, CHI, NY and the other cities took off and started their own fora, and that whole thing with the girl just exemplifies it. i loathe what that thread represents, and i loathe dutret's constantly demeaning tone, and unfortunately to many people in many places those qualities have become emblematic of bf now.

don't forget, i joined this place because i wanted to part of it, not to call people names. what's happened to this place sucks, and i have to say that thread, albeit started to call out ridiculousness that i laugh at as hard as you, has become an ugly focal point for what seems to be an ugly mindset.

oh please deathhare it's 9:30 on a frickin saturday night. i'm about the only one sad enough to be on the internet instead of carousing as i damn well should be and i'm hardly going to be calling anybody to talk about you guys!

edit: yup, just checked. 3 people . how sad am i?

ok but then wouldn't increased rake/offset from a slacker-angled fork counteract the increased ht angle somewhat? that's all i'm saying. and i'm not looking for a fight - just genuinely asking that because it seems to make sense.

deathare, mander. wanna take a stab at clarifying this for me? i feel like dutret's doing all the heavy lifting here.

mander 12-29-07 10:25 PM

Eddie I agree that the jackass thread attracts its share of unpleasant posts, but that's not why kemmer stickied it or why it gets so many posts. The really good heart of the thread is light hearted satire a la bsnyc, though the thread predates him. To be able to take this kind of joke shows character and class; conversely, you need a certain amount of character and class to be able to give it out without crossing into personal insults and bullying. Obviously not everyone is able to maintain this standard all the time, but that doesnt mean satire should stop.

As for this penguin business, I hope you see the irony in you fixednyc guys coming here and harshing everyone's buzz with that condescending prickery. guess what? I'm not a condescending prick and i post here. A lot of the topics here are not interesting and there are a few jerks but adding to it doesnt help anything.

eddiebrannan 12-29-07 10:34 PM

hey mander, let it go. the penguin thing was just a silly moment, and it ended up being a handy catch-all term for the silly herd mentality that exists on this and every forum. if you're not in that element then it's not aimed at you. the character and class thing applies equally. i do like it here. that's why i joined in 2005. i don't like certain elements that have somehow become representative of bfssfg. I would much rather it was they that stopped posting.

eddiebrannan 12-29-07 10:36 PM

god that penguin thing really got to you huh? sorry man, it wasn't even deep. just meant the same as calling some people sheep for blindly, unquestioningly following doctrine

jim-bob 12-30-07 10:09 AM

Hey eddie, got any pictures of that don walker? I want to see that thing built up!

no you need less rake to keep the same trail with a steeper angled head tube.

eddiebrannan 12-30-07 12:59 PM

no you need more offset for same trail if ht angle is increased

You posted a picture which shows the opposite of what you're claiming. Unless you are really ****ing dumb taking a little time to think before you post will keep you from looking like a moron.

kemmer 12-30-07 01:28 PM

Edit: deleting that comemnt was a good call eddie.

Dutret, you know better than to call names like that.

apparently EB isn't the only one who is having trouble with comprehension today. If you actually bothered to read my post instead of just focusing on a single word or two maybe you would benefit too.
