should i buy an IRO or wait for new kilo colors...help me decide

I've read up a lot on all the entry track bikes (it's gonna replace a beatup conversion) and narrowed it down to an IRO or a Kilo TT. I was pretty set on getting an orange IRO angus and then the "help with new colors mercier" thread popped up. should i wait for a kilo or just pull the trigger for and get the IRO already so i can have a new bike to immediately ride around?

kilo does have a nice lugged fork, new color options and the platinum frame option which are pretty big plusses...but on the other hand if i go with iro i can get the angus right away in purdddy orange and ride the dang thing versus having to wait a month or two. also, the iro has got a little bit more comfortable riding geometry for a street bike and you can do barspins no prob with a 700c. not sure if you can spin that front on a kilo, looks kinda tight. i guess another up for iro is the service.

is it worth the wait to see final new colors and final component decision on the platinum, or am i just wasting time that could be spent on a new bike...help me decide. opinions?

if it helps the guys at bikedirect told me that the new kilo tt will be done by feb 1st, but the platinum OX won't be done by then, platinum OX will probably take longer. The new kilo tt will come in black orange & white. The new platinum OX colors haven't been decided but they're leaning towards purple, blue, white and another.

if you're thinking about an orange angus, looks like you could get the kilo tt in orange, but every manufacturer has different versions of orange. it'll be sweet to see how these look come feb 1st.

Wish that was true, but it's not. My 56cm Mark V has the same geometry as an Angus and the wheel will not make it.

I am going to sell my IRO when the new Kilo comes out if that gives you any ideas.

I'd think that IRO would have more supporters on this board after everything he has done for us.
I love my IRO and would buy another.

if its just between the tt and the iro (not the ox) i would say iro if you have been riding a conversion for a while. if you go with the tt you may be wanting to replace parts much sooner than with the iro. but then again you would have the extra money you didn't spend on the iro to buy those parts.

i like deals. GB was a deal, good frame - happy!

new kilo is a great deal and a chance to get a different color frame to build up and try out new material

thanks to all for the input. i was just going to get a frameset and build it up....possibly i'd get the complete platinum ox depending on what the final components are.

i keep on going back and forth because the kilo tt has a nicer fork and i save some skrills that i can put into parts. iro seems to have done people well on the board, is a nice orange color and i can stop using my crap conversion that much sooner and don't have to wait till feb or march. it makes it tough because i dont' know what the colors for the new kilos look like.

so you can't do bar spins with the angus? ...i feel like i've seen a lot of pictures of people spinning their iro's. maybe i'm mistaken and in those pics they replaced the front with 650c.

Does it really have a nicer fork or just one that you think looks better?

it's lugged and flat...so i prefer it better. as far as construction and durability, i'm not sure.

If you're going to wait for the True Temper OX Platinum Kilo TT, then you'll be waiting a while.

doesnt happen to be a 56cm jamie roy or rob roy does it?

By the way OP i've been going over the same scenario in my head for a while now except with the jamie roy and not the angus... I'm leaning twords the jamie roy cuz i like the look of oversized tubing.

Got any proof or even a reason for saying that???

I say if its between IRO and regular kilo, Go IRo, but if your waiting for the OX platinum version, I would say the ox kilo, although i imagine Tony will be cooking up an answer to the OX kilo.

Theyre both decent frames i guess. Plenty of people riding both. Ive only heard one complaint about either and it was about the unstiffness (is that a word?) of the IRO frames. I havent ridden an IRO personally so i cant say anything about that.
The Kilo looks better to me but waiting to ride sux i know.

Well yeah, if you bother to read the thread, Mike from Bike Direct said it'd be at least five months before the frame is available.

Bikes: IRO Angus; Casati Gold Line; Redline 925; '72 Schwinn Olympic Paramount

Just because it was brought up: I can do a barspin with a 700x20 tire on my 56 cm Angus. I personally can't do a barspin, but it's possible with the narrow tire.

I've got a 56cm Mark V and I can clear barspins with a 700c. but it's a tight fit.

I am not sure which you should do
but if you are looking for frameset only

Kilo TT frameset is unloading Monday in BLACK, WHITE, GREEN, and ORANGE

guys at bikeisland should get the new pictures up mid week I would hope

frame set [frame and fork] will be on sale for $199 including shipping - so the price is great I think

however, if you are looking for a complete bike - Sold out; until late May
and new purple one will not be in until late summer

thanks for thinking of us

mike
