I saw a show about the guy who makes these (Calfee) on the science channel. He rigged up a rear rack out of bamboo to go with the bamboo bike. One guy sat on the rack, one guy on the seat and a third guy sat on the bars. The rear wheel ended up taco-ed, but the frame held up no problem. The BB, head tube, dropouts and seat tube were steel I believe.

I'm really interested to see where bamboo goes in the next 10 years where bikes are concerned. It'll never be mass production, but it certainly has potential. I mean ****, if they can build massive skyscrapers using a thousand feet of bamboo scaffolding, I'm sure they can build a badass bike frame out of it too.

i'd ride the **** out of a bamboo bike. but not that one (the op listed) no wonder it flexes, look at the size of the "tubing" compaired to that on the calfees. his main triangle is almost as thin as the seat stays and chainstays!

When they genetically engineer butted bamboo, it'll be lighter.

Bikes: Jamis Sputnik (2007) & Bridgestone RB-2 (1994).

They usually have a bamboo bike at River City here in PDX. I should test ride it for ****s and giggles.

I dont know what they are hoping to accomplish other than make something unique looking.

They have a whole mission to make bikes from sustainable materials found in the third world. They're expensive bikes now, but there are more egalitarian, 'green' motives behind them, other than looking unique, which they are. An college friend of mine recently got a DREAM job as a Calfee sales rep. So jealous.
