Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Looking for a Square Taper Crankset

Ok, So I am looking for a square tapper crankset that I can get to replace the Maxi one that I have. Right now I am limited to the size only 40 teeth with the Maxi. I was given 3 additional gears (43 /44/ 45) but they are for a the standard Shimano (5 point type) and are too big to fit the older crank that I am using. So I figure ask those who know, that means you guys. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great? Or if you might have one in a box of old parts that you could get rid of just send me a message and we could work something out.

Are you talking Sugino Super Maxi's? You should be able to find new rings for those. What you'll want to do is measure the BCD and get to digging. On a 5 bolt crankset, you measure in millimeters from center to center between two neighboring bolt holes (not the right term, but whatever) and multiply that by 1.7. I think those Super Maxi's were 110, but I may be wrong on that so it's best to measure. Then call around and ask for xxx BCD rings in whatever tooth you're looking for.

Good luck.
