I think batteries are okay. Do a search online for restricted items to make sure.

Checked luggage is good...they still might open your luggage if they think there's something suspicious, but they won't confiscate it from you at the gate.

TSA will outrank the IRS for least liked agency within the next year.

If you're attached to your church key I wouldn't take it. Not worth the risk, IMO. You could mail it to wherever you're going and then mail it home though.

any sort of electronic equipment taped to hell onto a bag is not what jonathan q republican is carrying.
stuff like that would stand out. it would probably be fine, they probably won't say anything, just saying i wouldn't bother keeping it on there while flying

the airline spent 10 minutes scanning and re-scanning my brothers book bag, thinking that his headphones were a bomb- my point, they will probably think you have a bomb taped to your bag and are attempting to commit suicide on their plane.

hmmm. i guess these are little enough things. i'll take off my light and use my parents' church key. it's funny, i bet if they said that, they'd have no idea what i meant....or what churchkeying a beer is.

i keep it on my keychain. churchkeying a beer isn't like shotgunning a beer, but you can drink it faster.

just adds a carb.

but if you're that concerned with drinking it fast, just carry a knife and shotgun it.

edit* not on a plane.

Not quite the same as your situation, but I've flown a couple times with one of those little Cateye lights with the bungie thing tied to my bag. Never had any problems, but if your light is taped on, I think it might be a bit more suspect. The church key will most certainly get confiscated, though...

A friend of mine was in the security line when he remembered he had some CO2 cartridges in his bag. They happened to be taped together so they wouldn't roll around. He pulled them out and tossed them in a trash can so he wouldn't have to deal with it when he got to the screeners.

Not suprisingly, a slight delay was created when a security officer saw someone toss several metal tubes wrapped in duct tape into a trashcan in a crowded section of a busy airport. He made his flight, but he had lots of explaining to do before he got there.
