Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? something off a stock road bike. i have a set of allez pedals on my bike now. half plastic and half metal, plastic clips and nylon straps. lighter than the mks tracks, alloy clips, and leather straps, plus i don't feel bad if i clip the edges when turning to hard.

they can usually be had for free or very little money at your LBS, mine are off my own allez but i have a couple other pairs of brand new ones laying around i got from guys who installed clipless pedals when they bought their bikes.

i run mks tracks , plastic double clips (way more comfortable and supportive than metal clips IMO) then 2 straps with a piece of innertube as a double strap holder, and love that set up a lot

I'm switching from Sylvans, Fit-A-Straps, and MKS cages to the cheap Eggbeaters.

Cheapest Eggbeaters + Nashbar shoes = $62

MKS Touring Lites, decent steel/alu clips, and decent straps.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, for most people double straps are totally unnecessary.

Aaaaaaaaand I still want that crankset.

I still run the cheapest ****tiest Wellgo SPD knockoffs that are currently made and have absolutely no problems with them. The last pair I bought was 6 bucks brand new.

Pick up a pair of touring shoes. They look normal enough and you can still walk around in them. You probably already know that though, so I'll just shut up now.
