Since, my post contributed to this latest tangent, I feel like maybe I should answer too.

My Passion is my family, keeping them safe and happy without keeping anyone else from doing the same. If I can have some fun along the way, Super.
If I live in “fear” of anything, it’s that someday I’ll become a burden to my family or my community.
I’d like to point out to Mr /Ms. Force that I worked outside of an office for 14 years (as a bike messenger) before I took a job in this “cubicle” and in no way do I feel I’ve sacrificed any freedom or that I’ve sold-out somehow. I’ve seen how it is on both sides of the office wall and I can confidently say that this is where I want to be right now.

I'm a tougher person to pin down than by using charming quotes, though I like that one. Like I already said, I have no interest in any "movement;" there IS no revolution.
I'm not going to write too many revealing specifics about myself here, ever, but I'm in my mid-twenties and work in the arts--in my field of study and passion--and make enough money to pay back my college loans and live. It's not that difficult, but it certainly took turning away from well-traveled paths to comfort.
I still think it's terribly ironic that people shout "u-lock justice!!!" and make some odd claims about "pigs" and the rules of the streets.. on their way to a cubicle to spend the most alive years that they've got under a fluorescent light, killing themselves with their own submission.
It has always been this way and always will be, but that will not stop me from running back into the cave to try and stir a few people up.

well Carl,
it seems to me that your bosses request is completely reasonable. as mentioned before, they probably see lawsuit in block letters. when you chose a normal job and probably a pretty normal lifestyle, you also signed up for following rules, even if you want to pretend your outlaw bike messenger and badass. also i'd like to thank you for pointing out you ride all the way to without putting your foot down or unclipping, something i and probably plenty of folks in the mountain bike forum could do for miles through cities and towns and on trails for many more miles than your commute, and on mountain bikes before you knew what a "fixed gear" was or how it could allow you to pretend your cool on the internet. i know its fun, i feel you on that, but really. not impressed. don't feel sorry for you. don't want to follow the rules, drop out. but in the world that awaits you there is no health insurance or 401k. have fun.
