Does anything say how big the links are on the master lock? I couldn't find it.

Me personally I'd get the onguard if those were you choices, based solely on nothing more than reputation as a bike lock company.

I realise this is a chain in question, but I've seen some master lock u-locks in person and they were not impressive.

I'd specifically avoid the onGuard because of their reputation.

If you're willing to spend the $55 on the Onguard chain, you might as well get a NY chain from Kryptonite (get one with the mini-U lock). This should get you started.

There's been a few threads floating around about people having problems with some of their other locks. Enough so that I'd avoid the brand in favor of Kryptonite.

Gotcha, that changes things a bit. In that case, I'd probably prefer the OnGuard one. Their website gives it a 4-star rating out of 5...

Neither of those locks are great, and I personally will never buy another OnGuard product due to three of their U-locks freezing up on me and my wife and one freezing up on a friend, but out of the two the OnGuard is better. Master Lock makes complete rubbish.

If I were you I'd get something else with my gift card and buy a proper lock from Kryptonite.

For what it's worth, every bike lock study I've seen shows Master Locks as being little better than no lock at all, even the thick chains.

I have to say those are great prices on the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit, mine was like 100.00? just about two months ago! Sell your gift card and buy a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit, you'll be glad you did
