Joke Thread: Coolest Gear Ratios

Post pictures of the coolest/funniest/stupidest gear ratios. 63/7? 12/36? Anything that is just really stupid.

Exactly. A ridiculously stupid, and backwards gear ratio that would be almost impossible to move.

You can get a 36 (more like 34) tooth sprocket? Imagine the size of the chainring to get a 70ish inch ratio!

which doesn't possibly exist other than in your dreams

Charlesbian 01-12-08 01:02 PM

that so called "bike dancing" Quicksilver video had uber small chainrings, guessing so they could pull tricks easier with such a low gearing, but made them useless as bike messangers.

54x14, brakeless, platforms

conor 01-12-08 10:27 PM

the cool thing in bmx nowadays is to have small chain rings.

any gear ratio over ~70 gear inches on the street is a joke

deadforkinglast 01-12-08 10:31 PM

My bike is 32x13. It's only a little lower than most people on this board seem to like (65 inches), but it looks ridiculous. I like it.

i used to ride 70. after a few incremental increases, i now ride 80 inches. i'm a joke? the low gears taught me cadence, putting that cadence on the high gears equals speeeeed.

oh, and of course i run a brake with a gear over ~75ish.

glennn 01-13-08 02:13 AM

running out of ideas for threads are we?

schnee 01-13-08 02:26 AM

I can't see myself ever running anything less than the 77 gear inches I have on my road bike / commuter... it cracks me up every time I ride it.

87" at the moment, since the studded tyres are almost an inch more in diameter than my regular slicks, which give me 86".

Tom Stormcrowe 01-13-08 03:51 AM

65/4? (432 gear inches and 117.5 MPH @ 100 cadence ;))

Yeah, I'm rolling along on 74"; I must be hilarious. I'm thinking of going even higher for the next alleycat, just to keep my opponents in pain. ;)
