Cheapest new Fixed Gear

Whats the cheapest fixed gear on the market? My friend wants one (after riding with me, and using my fixed gear a few times, he is hooked), so I'm trying to find him what is the cheapest out there.

Fuji Track?

dewthedew 01-12-08 10:33 AM

kilo tt

streetlightpoet 01-12-08 10:36 AM

windsor hour?

San Rensho 01-12-08 10:40 AM

Windsor hour (I have one) is probably the cheapest. On the track its a fine bike, but if I had to do it over again, I would splurge and for $50 get the Mercier because it looks nicer.

tradtimbo 01-12-08 10:53 AM

why not convert? its by far the cheapest.

ryansexton 01-12-08 11:02 AM

I don't like working. I have money, I don't have time, or worksmanship.

brunop 01-12-08 11:08 AM

i have an iro that i've put over 8000 miles on only changin' tyres, brake pad, and chain. i love it. cost me 400 bucks complete.

sp00ki 01-12-08 11:09 AM

this monstrosity will probably be your cheapest bet as far as new is concerned. the fact that you claim you don't have the time to build up a bike pm lets me know it's a perfect match for you.

spencedonfonix 01-12-08 11:10 AM

i saw this bike called the se racing draft at performance bike the other day. its 250 i believe. 1 piece cranks. i wouldn't suggest it, but it's the cheapest i've found.

sp00ki 01-12-08 11:14 AM

i know you just didn't...

charlesxbronson 01-12-08 11:17 AM

hahahahaha

Moximitre 01-12-08 11:23 AM

Draft = 1pc. cranks = no.

Moximitre 01-12-08 11:23 AM

BUUUT. My rommmate commutes on it with full fenders and all that jazz. He's pretty light, and doesn't ride all that hard. It's serving its purpose well... I guess.

sp00ki 01-12-08 11:26 AM

do you really think op cares about quality? "cheapest fixed gear" and "i don't have time to convert a bike" doesn't make me think he cares about anything at all whatsoever.

not even poor aids babies.

Oh No 01-12-08 12:36 PM

he dont got time for aids babies

ryansexton 01-12-08 12:49 PM

Aids babies deserve to die, they shouldn't have been having unprotected sex at such a young age, they should have known better.

Eh Chongo?

Kol.klink 01-12-08 01:01 PM

If your "roommate" as you would have us believe, buys that bike, He is a fool. Get the Windsor "the hour" from www.bikesdirect.com the extra 50$ is Well worth it. keep in mind The kilo TT for an extra 50$ comes with a lugged fork and 36H (stronger rims),

Charlesbian 01-12-08 01:03 PM

just get a damn kilo tt, unless you are riding fixed for style points, then go **** yourself.

miss_emma 01-12-08 01:27 PM

If it doesn't have to be brand new, look on craigslist. If he's an average sized dude he should have not a problem finding one.

If he is that hooked why is he gonna cheap out?
Go diving in the fountain till he can afford something
decent.

Have you heard of poor? Because my friend is one of those, and he doesn't, and won't, have money for a 1,000 dollar bike. He wants something nice to ride around with me on. He isn't per say "HOOKED", but he does really like the idea of fixed gear.

On the note of fountain diving, me and him did that last year and almost got arrested for it, but not after the cops threw us in the fountain. It sucked being really really wet and cold for the 10 dollars we would have got. Haha.

i bought the motobecane on ebay for my 15 yearold son lastnight. i chose it over the kilo because it has brakes installed and he wants to go singlespeed before he goes fixed gear. i hope i maid the right choice and the motobecane doesnt suck. its only $349 and that cannot be beat. If you go to performance and look at the SE draft you will see that it is a heavy peice of crap. they even put a clear plastic chain guard on it.

Bizurke 01-12-08 04:38 PM

I would go with either the Windsor Hour or look at craigslist. I got my first SS on CL for like $100 and couldn't have been happier.

anomaly 01-12-08 04:58 PM

Kilo TT is the cheapest bike worth a damn, and even then it needs some upgrades stock...

Didn't you just say you had money, but not time?

Charlesbian 01-13-08 11:52 AM

i think "his friend" is really himself, and he's trying to not sound like a newbie.

this is basically what gave you away my poor, rich friend.:)

ryansexton 01-13-08 02:56 PM

We'd rather just not build a bike. Stop being momos.

Charlesbian, I am the master skidzor!
