Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Thank you. I love that stuff as much as I love Thai food.

I'm angry that I've found out that an Engineering BS won't allow me to get a good job overseas. Not because of the degree, but because I'm American.

oh, and here's my cat.

I am so angry because my contact lens Rx is expired and I have no more pairs of contacts.

The local coffee shop *slash* bar is having a Big Lebowski movie night this Thursday, with half-priced beer and costumes.

bad saddle angle kills your penis. there. let's talk about something else.

i hate how i gave my bike a complete overhaul today and realized just how awful it is from an ohio winter and all the snow/ice/salt. my miche hubs used to be soooo nice....now the bearings are clicking. my cranks are nice stuff, but the crank bolts are rusted as ****. my chain is a few months old and it's starting to get rust spots. my track ends were rusty.

i just cleaned the **** a couple of weeks ago, it snowed for a couple of days and bam! my bike turns into a piece of crap. disintegrating crap.

^^^This case, and others similar to yours, illustrate the wisdom of Finnish authorities NOT to use salt on the roads. And yet, Finnish winters are nothing to sneeze at. (Cold pun intended.)

yeah. but are people going to change? not likely. some are scared of change, some have vested interest in resisting change, most don't care, and a small group want things to change for a reason no one in the other groups gives a damn about.

so my bike will be dead eventually.

it makes me want to leave this place. i never had this problem in portland. they don't salt when it rains.

Maybe your width makes a smaller passing lane that's why cars too close?

I second that. I'd teach her to ride in my bag or basket.

i dont know what to do.
  • Spacers in the chainring bolts.
  • Chainring on the othe side of the spider.
  • Play with specers on the rear hub axle and redish the wheel so the rim is centered as before (if you use no rim brakes, you can skip redishing).
  • Specers on the right side of the BB. You can't do much with that, however, up to 1 or 1.5 mm.
  • BB with different width. More expensive solution, but sometimes it's the only viable one if the difference in chainline is large.
