Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

probably my favorite movie, and also one of many reasons i didn't go to iu. i wanna be a cutter, not a future yuppie trying to run chris off the street.

If you watch his gearing, he's on the small ring at one point of his epic draft sesh.

do you mean in the movie or just in general? if it's the latter, you best start watching the discovery channel!!

bfssfg breaking away party little 500 weekend. actually attending the race is optional, as it is 200 laps of boredom and sitting in sun. by the way, the cutters won last year (they were actually called the stoners before the movie felt the need to change that, or so i have heard), but they aren't really just townies like they used to be.

Do they still race using single speeds with coaster brakes on a dirt track?

Yes they do. It's the only kind allowed. Although I guess they don't get them from AMF anymore. Toe clips are outlawed too.

That is purely awesome. I've been thinking about building up a coaster brake road bike for some stupid reason.

Is tying yourself to the pedals allowed, too?
