No kidding. There's always something more expensive out there and someone to offer up a condescending critique of your choices. If what you got fits your needs in your price bracket, just enjoy. As for those cranks, 666pack nailed it -- you're paying a $50 premium for the anondized color and the funky ring. You just need to decide whether it's worth it to you.

Less creaking is a fact. Price differences are also facts. How much people value each fact is up to them and forms their opinion. "Superior in every way" is just about the least defensible position anyone can assume on any topic. But that's just my opinion. hawr.

^ Man, maybe so, but you're making a completely moot point. This guy is looking for a budget set of cranks for a $175 Sparton frame. There is no way you're suggesting he should buy cranks that will cost more than the rest of the build put together. Therefore, any argument against the square taper design is completely OT. I'd suggest taking it elsewhere.
Anyways, since people seem to have lots of hate for the messenger cranks, what do people prefer in this price range? IRO/Andel/Alien? Something else? Seems to me if you're going the RD route, might as well fork out the extra 20 bucks for the better chainring and bling points if you're going to have to deal with potential chainline issues either way. Especially seeing that you get a chainring that would normally cost 60 bucks for a pretty modest markup - the black RD's run 75 bucks on their own.

Factual is something that can evaluated by methods either of empirical science or of documentary research. It is documented that shimano's system has more torque and it is also documented that shimanos system does not have creaking problems which square tapers are prone too. It is hard to imagine any other standards for which to evaluate cranks. So the statement that shimano's system is better in every way is in fact an conclusion to my set of claims, not an opinion. It can also be said that shimano's system is better in every way over suginos. This obviously does not account for the ambiguity of personal tastes for fashion and style, but you will notice that my original claim did not pretend to compare on these grounds--- quite the opposite I both claimed that shimano had a superior system but was inferior with popular trends.

I have it in silver cranks/black ring. It goes on the bike tonight, but from what i've gathered it looks like and feels like a solid nice fairly lightweight crank. I wouldnt pay the premium for the annodization, buy a silver one and anno it yourself if you are that worried about color. You can do it for a few bucks and with **** you got running around your house/a craft store.
