Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I actually saw a pretty skilled guy doing tricks on clipless yesterday... blew my mind that he was able to commit to all these things that people do strictly in sneakers.

I just had my brother send my spd's off my cannondale caad6 and they're fun- unless I miss the first step. Then it's kind of stupid- I like clipping in on road bikes, on fixed gears it's a whole different experience. Now, I guess I'll see if with spd's accidental disengagement will be a problem.

i liked clipless a lot before coming to tokyo, but the initial uncomfortability of the much heavier traffic, the need to pop onto crowded sidewalks all the time, due to one way roads w/ massive freeways in the middle, near my place & the unfamiliarity of riding on the opposite side of the road got me into the nasty habit of disengaging all the time. the desire to get off the bike to check out shops, walk around, etc. was the final nail in the coffin. back to clips and straps in a couple short weeks.

sure feels nice whenever i throw them on every now and again though.
