Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Double exposure, take half expose with two shutter actuations on film, one with people one without.
Thats a sweet photo, even sweeter if it was done with a Holga (which the size format might suggest unless he has a sweet medium format camera)

theyre pretty expensive compared to the price of the camera. polgas/holgaroids are cute names for the converted cameras.

I like responding...I mean, if I, or anyone, just wanted to post pictures they would go get on flickr and browse to the hearts content.

I think i'm one of the few people here that rides fixed but isn't a photojournalism major.

Haha, no worries, my post was in jest as well. I often hope people dont take me seriously. It would be a horrible error.
Anyways, to contribute...
Some portraits I've done in the past. A shameless self plug I know, but oh well.

i had a holgaroid for a while. picked it up cheap in LA few years back - hrmmm maybe around $75? sold it for $250 on ebay 6 months ago. god i love fads.

now a days a holga costs $50 from urban outfitters - otherwise i'd suggest picking one up from holgamods.com. the holgamods holgas have been retooled to get more consistent results - which some people claim to not like, but if you're not a toolbag, and know how to replicate 'happy accidents' then it's not much of an issue and you end up buying more of a real camera.

wait, theres a REASON holga photos turn out like they do!?!?!?!
Jokes.
I want to get a couple more and convert one to 35mm and rig up the lense from the other one for my D50.
You can still get holgas on the cheap from amazon, I payed 20 bones for mine. Plus the giant rubber band and plethra of gaffer's tape give it charachter.

don't waste your time with the holga lens for your d50. if you really want one, holgamods dude makes and sells 'em but the image quality is worse than ****. dab some vaseline on your cameraphone and you've got a dslr + holga lens. if you're gonna play around with homemade lenses, i'd highly suggest the DIY lens baby (medium format lens + plastic bellows) or attempt the ultimate hipster camera: the digital lomo l-ca.

i've seen some pretty neat riggings for both digital holgas and the single digital l-ca i believe exists. the dholga actually projected onto a piece of frosted glass which was placed squarely in front of a p&s camera - so it was actually more of a digital holgabscura. the digital l-ca was in fact an epson r-d1 with a custom machined lens housing which held the main lens element from a wrecked l-ca. i'm told the results are quite nice.

Haha, yeah. A while ago JPEG ran a section about DIY cameras, and some lady made lenses by melting down stuff like pop bottles and parafin wax. I was thinking about a DIY pop bottle lense. Seemed cool. The picture quality is garbage though, haha, just an experiment to keep me busy.
