I ride MKS AR2s (double straps) and some cheap Wellgos (single strap). The MKS have a bit more traction than the Wellgos but overall I can slip my foot out too easy, unless I crank the straps. I ride mostly in Chucks and sometimes flat shoes.

I'm up for trying pinned BMX pedals.

Seems to me you'd have to totally loosen your straps everytime you wanted out of them because of the spiky spikes on the pedals.

I run BMX pedals with double-straps, and never have a problem getting out. I don't keep my straps super duper tight, but they're not loose.

Compatible with what? A crank? Straps? HP-UX?

Never thought I'd see HP-UX mentioned in this subforum. I think I'm coming of age.

Nothing is compatible with HP-UX 10. You need to go to at least 11i to get some compatibility.

I ran large platforms and clips on my MTB for a while, but the spindle was too far behind the ball of my foot for my liking. There are some Wellgo platforms that put the clip mount closer to the spindle.

ahh... I ride in hiking shoes in the summer and waterproof hiking boots in the winter, both have mega-traction.

anyone got anymore bmx pedals that will take clips and straps?

-=(8)=- 02-17-08 09:24 AM

I have a picture on BF server somewhere of some Primo Tenderizers
that I b@$Tardized with some Christoph clips/straps off of a 70's Motobecane for my Mercier.

They were hyphy, y0

BMX platforms FTW !

i was rocking some old bmx pedals with some soma clips. they were kinda clunky but definitely comfortable, a great budget pedal. i had to switch all the left pedal parts to the right and vice versa cause i had to run the pedals upside down to fit the clips on. for a pedal that is easily gotten from a scrap pile in the trash, id say its worth it over many other pedals, but i recently got soma hellyer pedals and like them much more.

Nope. Most BMX pedals use a 9/16" spindle.

You must have a tiny foot?
What straps are those?

That's at least my second or third HP-UX reference. I always think about it now that I live next door to my old coworker, a redneck who called himself "The HP-UX Cowboy" when we were working together.

Anyone tried the Rivendell Grip Kings?

http://www.rivbike.com/products/list/pedals_and_so_on

Pricey but much narrower than BMX pedals it looks like which is nice if you have a lower bottom bracket.

Any similarly long and narrow BMX pedals?

yeah but i remember bmx pedals that the pins were replaceable/removable.

This actually seems like it'd be ideal. Pull the pins on one side and run clips/straps, you'd have a smooth surface akin to a wider GR-9 platform. On the bottom you have an equally wide and comfortable platform, but you'd have a few pins on there for traction.

Right now I feel like if I'm messing around unclipped and riding on the platform of my gr-9's there is a terribly small surface area that my foot is on, and they slip off relatively easily.

First thing that came to mind was some meat tenderizers.

At first i thought...S&M to the rescue but then i realized that those holes are really reflector mountings and may not be properly spaced for clips. Im pretty sure its correct spacing, right?

If so, there are tons of BMX pedals at Dan's (many sealed ones) that will work for clips.

These MOSH ones which kick ass...

willypilgrim 02-18-08 01:54 PM

i dunno. i don't have much experience with reflectors, but every old road bike i've seen with reflectors had the same space for clips, so i got an optimistic feeling about it.

Maybe i'll try and bargain bin some pedals and give this a shot. The ones at that kids bike from mash were certainly decent looking.

deathhare 02-18-08 01:55 PM

Yeah, i think i actually remember one time putting clips on some pedals that had reflectors and using the holes.

willypilgrim 02-18-08 01:56 PM

for certain i did it on a sanwa 10spd my girl was riding for a while.

mannequinforce 02-18-08 06:53 PM

nice finds guys.

covpride 02-18-08 07:05 PM

I just ordered the wellgo jr bmx pedals. I figure they won't be huge, but still be bigger than gr-9's, get some soma clips and stick those on the new build since I like to ride in sneakers
