help finding the correct tool?

I need to remove a lockring like this except with 8 notches. I am trying to replace the cog on my xxix, and am looking for a tool.

Anyone know what I need?

I use the same tool with every lockring. The standard Park lockring tool will work just fine.

sphynx_000 02-25-08 10:07 PM

this tool?

sphynx_000 02-25-08 10:11 PM

or maybe this one would work?

bottom bracket tool?

conor 02-25-08 10:13 PM

why wouldn't a regular lockring wrench work?

sphynx_000 02-25-08 10:17 PM

ya, I will check sears next time I go out.

conor 02-25-08 10:21 PM

i don't know if that was sarcastic. since i wasn't being snarky, i'm going to guess it wasn't. i don't know how easy it is finding bike tools at sears. your lbs will have one, and the internet has 'em for sure.

sphynx_000 02-25-08 10:29 PM

Oh sorry, no sarcasm intended. Sears would call it a hook spanner, but its probably alot more money than the tool would cost at the shop.

conor 02-25-08 10:45 PM

actually it's not that much more--actually cheaper than some. but: this should work.

I disagree

The XXIX uses a cassette hub according to the Raleigh site. That usually requires a tool like this. Can you post a picture of your setup? Or just head to your local shop, they'll make sure you get the right tool.

I would have taken a picture, but dont have my camera with me at the moment.

I think my bike may be set up differently, I dont see how that tool could possibly work anywhere on my hub. I will just go to the shop and figure this out.

That is what I do in a bind.

Can you elaborate a bit?

Try the "member search" feature.

I don't mean to quibble over tools, I just find that after using a hozan lock ring tool that my park feels oh so inadequate. Tightening a track lock ring with the park tool is a joke [though admitidly not its intended purpose].

^Agreed, there are much better versions of the tool than park. My point was basically they all have the same function but you are right, some function better than others.
