Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I think difflock was talking about the bmxer. respect to the fixy guy but he is doing less than 1/4 of the height of the bmxer, and over grass not asphalt.

Most of the folks who do this wacky stuff on bikes have some sort of BMX/MTB background already. This "sport" is already turned on it's head.

Yep, people are starting on fixed gear bikes to do tricks, then slowly they will all go "hey... what if these bikes had smaller wheels, and motorcycle styled handlebars, I bet we could do these tricks easier"

..not to mention that it would be a lot easier to land big airs on a smaller frame + lower seat...

I think the problem these kids are having is that you can't get anywhere fast on a BMX bike to do the tricks, and they want to be able to get to places fast + do tricks, utilizing the same bike.

Because you wouldn't look like a cool dude because bystanders would have no idea that your bike was a fixed gear.

Its only a matter of time until someone starts making fixed gear bikes designed to run a with smaller/wider wheels (650x30 tires?), with a smaller frame, risers, and a top tube pad. Whoever said it before me was right. Track bikes will slowly evolve into bmx bikes and in about 5-10 years bmx will super cool again. History repeats itself.
