Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Rotafix is superior to using the whip in almost all cases.

The drawback to rotafixing is that you're more likely to damage the frame and/or the paint, and unless you're the Skidmaster General, the cog is probably going to be tighter than it needs to be.

When rotafixing, you don't have to torque it as hard as you can.

Sure you aren't using a 3/32nd chain on a 1/8th cog?

Man, I'm glad I just found this thread. I switched back to my 17t cog from my 19t cog, both Surly, and I thought I was losing my mind! Regardless of the chain, the 17t is always louder. The 19t cog is whisper quiet.

thank you so much, thats now my custom title... also rotafix method is superior to the whip or just mashing the pedals up a hill because of the added leverage
