Half-Finger Gloves
I did a search for gloves but I didn't find a thread that really answered my needs.
I'm looking for a cheap, machine washable half finger gloves for the summer that soak up sweat and yet are breathable. I have pretty big hands and thick fingers, and the cheaper the better. What do you guys think out of this list, aka what brands should I stay away from? http://www.nashbar.com/results.cfm?s...0Half%20Finger |
pearl izumi gels (or something along that line) are your best choice.
just be careful, some colors will stain the other crap you're washing. |
At Target, they have Reebok "weight lifting" gloves for $8. They're functionally the same as most cycling gloves, until you start talking about the fancy lycra kind (like Pearl Izumi).
If you have big hands, you might not like a lot of modern gloves. I find that my fingers are too large for even the XL Pearl Izumi gel gloves, so I stick with classic crocheted gloves. I have a pair of red white and blue ones that I got from Performance for $8, and they've served me well. |
The Specialized brand is really nice.

I got a pair of Adidas gloves with no velcro (big plus for me) with good leather on the palm and a fine mesh on the backs. They were $15 on amazon.com
|
I have Louis Garneau and love them. They have leather on the palm side and a breathable material on the back, plus the much appreciated nose-wiping terry cloth on the thumb. I wash them after every ride and they last a good while.
Don't skimp on the gloves. If you do a lot of riding, good gloves are worth their weight in gold. |
What about these mesh gloves?
Definitely breathable, and looks cool too! http://cgi.ebay.ca/Planet-Bike-Tauru...QQcmdZViewItem |
Crochet gloves are nice but you get a weird tan in summer.

i snagged a cheap pair at performance. red white and blue crochet, but black everywhere else with fake leather palms. they do the job, but my wrists are small, so the velcro tab sticks out always. i think they were something like $6 or $7.

get the eai crochet gloves they are super nice
|
I second the Adidas, I got a pair from Nashbar for 5 bucks, a second pair recently for 15 at a shop.
|
I just bought some pearl izumi gloves and they are really nice, 20 bucks or so and no lycra (I am genuinely allergic to lycra!)
|
buy em from rei and take them back if they dont work for you or fall apart
edit: i suppose performance/nashbar would work too |
Weight lifting gloves at Academy Sports under $5.00

I love the performance red/white/blue gloves too. Mostly because about once a month the dog gets a hold of them and I have to buy a new pair.
|
I also want a pair of the clemente gloves. Those are sex.
|
full-finger all day every day

Nashbar is going to be really expensive after taxes and shipping. Just about every LBS I've ever been to has a box of promo or just plain cheap gloves behind the counter that are sold for cheap.
|
We don't pay taxes on internet sales in the US, unless the company in headquartered in your state. It's been a contentious issue for these last few years, but no one in the government can seem to figure out how to tax it properly. Let's hope they never do.

Shipping often eat up the savings on lower priced online items, even without tax.

Very happy with my Louis Garneaus. Got em from Performance on sale about 6 months ago. Good padding, terry nose wipe, and they fit my big paws.
