Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

As far as you can tell... As far as I can tell from here you guys are all obese and drive huge Cadillacs

BTW I think the weird old fart who invented the magic wheel thing is Hungarian, so that's why they filmed it on Hősök tere. BTW, my commute goes right there along one side of that square.

Man, I love that place. Easily my favorite town that I have traveled to. Very jealous. Still trying to figure out how to live there...

You have just told me something that gave me a chill to the bone. I think the problem with this whole 'performance scooter' thing is that I actually believe it. And I think that I may have been conned by infinite proportions.

I believed what I read at:
www.iksaworld.com
www.autoped.nl
www.kickbick.biz

But you know what? My bones are chillier yet, because now I wonder if these sites are really just an oasis to confuse and destroy me, and to scam me from everything that I have ever known and loved! And what about this Forum?? Are you all part of the operation with these fake "uropein" countries that are pretending to be competing on a friggin' scooter ALL out to make ME think that this crap really exists??-------all for a measly few hundred thousand??

I will leave in peace. My time here has been good. Moses

I don't doubt that those websites existed, but the implication that this is some kind of off-season training for our favorite Flemish supermen is total bull****. To call scooting even a "niche sport" is an insult to sky surfing, competitive canoing, and disc golf.

Maybe you should just quit while you're ahead... errrrr... rather, not particularly far behind.

I was entirely ready to write these things off as a joke until I watched the Iggy Pop vid (that's the only one I watched). They actually do look pretty fun. No where near as bad-ass as these gearless suckers though: https://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2008macedon2bq2.jpg

Toronto Centre Island has a big ol' disc golf course free for anyone to use. I'll have to remember to pick up a frisbee when I move down to Queen's Quay.

Well played!

I wonder how these things would fare in winter?
Prolly have to DIY a studded tire for the rear I'd guess.

Damn, I was hoping the video's end would be him getting doored as he scooted along in the bike lane next to the parked cars.

I would wager that they would be pretty bad. Issue would lie in the fact that the force being applied to the ground (via your foot) won't be linear with the tire track. So you will inevitably be applying lateral acceleration. This will probably cause extreme instability and splits.

In my opinion the 'European' angle can sometimes be the kiss of death. As an example, would you rather party with Gary Glitter, Elton John, or Simon Cowell?------see what I mean?

However, the hardcore European racers that actually participate in seasonal racing circuits think this thing is the ultimate Man vs. Man vs. Machine, vs. Environment, vs. most things that we would consider common sense.

We know that we can get some street credit by having Travis Brown kick one of these up Mt. Charleston and back. Yet we can almost get the same impact having David Copperfield pull one out of his chamois.

Maybe.
Gary Glitter lieks little kids.

Ask any old school, pre switch stance skateboarder about that. Almost 10 years after being forced off my skateboard, by dislocating my kneecap, my calves are still different. Not the performance hit on the bike one would think.
