OT: I hate eBay

supposedly, i got some sort of $10 off coupon for my next ebay purchase. when i tried to put it in, it keeps rejecting it b/c it's "not valid."
the frustrating thing is that it's totally impossible to talk to a real person, either from ebay or paypal. plus, the ebay live help chat thing never works. this may be the last thing i ever buy off ebay. psh.

I've never dealt with coupons but I'm obsessed with ebay. The only thing I can't stand about it is that people have no clue on how to bid. Instead of waiting for the last few seconds of an auction to bid, they start a bidding war 5 days before it closes. That's the dumbest thing to do since you're only driving up the price on yourself.

Agreed, the rational time to place a bid is somewhere in the final seconds, as close as you can get to the end. Everywhere else, you're giving up information to your opponents and stirring up emotional overbidding. Ebay of course does everything they can to encourage this irrational style of bidding, because it drives prices up.

Where did you try and put the code in? I have used codes for money off before, and they usually get entered in the paypal part of the checkout, after the thing has been purchased?

weird that it doesn't work. And yeah, ebay and paypal live help is a joke in almost every case.

my favorite component came from ebay. i paid way too much for it, but it would've been impossible to find otherwise.

eBay and PayPal are pretty terrible. That said, I still use them... For now.

Article in yesterdays WSJ about all the trouble the "New" ebay is having. Sellers and buyers abandoning in droves. Still use it but the poor seller packing and high shipping are getting out of hand.

The shipping is what kills it. People use that to make a bunch of cash by avoiding the percentage taken out of the selling price. Boo.

And sellers are only doing that because eBay is continually asking sellers to pay higher and higher prices. Between eBay and PayPal, the fees now are insane.

Yep. I just sold a bike on ebay for our shop which the owner wanted 950 out of. Item sold for 1200 with free shipping, so after shipping, ebay and paypal fees I made about $10 off of it.
