Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Nope - the force of friction depends only on the friction coefficient and the weight on the tire. Unless the road is very rough or full of debris, then you might get some marginal plowing or attempted-plowing action.

As far as physics goes, it seems to me that skidding straight would be best. It keeps you stable and lets you move your weight rearward without worrying as much about staying upright.

How about we agree that the difference in this case is marginal and tell the OP to do whichever works best for him?

Yeah, but he still has a front brake for emergency situations. I think most people on the forum could care less if someone wants to optimally stop as fast as possible everytime they stop. Therefore, all the power to him if he wants to ride like most of the other people on the board with front brakes who always say "but I barely ever use it!"

My bike has clips and straps, but I try to use them as little as possible. Where should I position my feet on the underside of the pedal for maximum speed?

Is this the thread about the guy that had a friend that got run over while he was taking something off some guys top tt while he was in a store buying an nJs taco or something of the sorts while looking for a Durett at a velodrome in downtown Richmond the week before last.

The answer to the question is ALWAYS use tt length to determine fit on a bike.

My bike has handlebars, but I try to use them as little as possible. Where should I mount the brake lever that I don't ever use since my hands are never on the bars?

You must be thinking of a different thread, we don't have a velodrome. And I was told that you don't really need a tt. TT protectors are just covering empty space.

Brake levers are for wannabe 'core riders.

I just turn the stem 90 degrees and wrap the cable around one hand and steer with the other. It is all about style.

Anyone know of any pink Ouray grips that fit oversize threadless stems?

if you really think about it, how stupid is it that people can actually make a thread about skidding, and discuss it.. its just a tire ****ing slidding on the ground, everyone has been doing it since they got on their big wheel when they were 4.

and its not just one thread.. there is ALWAYS an active skidding thread here. can we ****ing ban skidding topics from this forum?

Big wheels dont have tires, they have plastic wheels and no skid patches

why would your preach to ban something that you just took time out of your life to comment on?
skid threads are dumb, so are tt pad threads and kilott vs hour threads, but they provide entertainment.
get over it.

My best friend who rides my old Bianchi Street Wise hybrid always does that down hills. I think skidding on anything sucks. I only do it when it seems like easiest way to slow down/stop, or when someone from the area who has seen MASH SF and doesn't know how fixie's work asks me to show them a skid.

I alternate between swerve skids and skips. Straight out skids are not so good at stopping.

Yeah man... these threads are only for straight entertainment.

peeps always want to ban threads and stuff. What else is there to even talk about in ss/fg?

1. n00bs asking for good prices/how to's without searching.
2. skid vs. brake.
3. this bike vs. that.
4. pants vs. no pants

c'mon d00ds! partay
