broken HOW? upside down riding? or?

most of the pressure for a toe clip goes at the strap, the clip just keeps the strap open so you can kick in.

do you live in manayunk? i can't imagine how you're breaking clips in philly otherwise, hills are so sparse here...

i will say, though, that i got a pair of soma oppy 4x gate with two singles each and they feel strong as hell.
though, i've only ever broken one clip (alloy mt christophe) so it's possible i'm not riding the way you are.

aluminums will break as i have own a set of aluminums (came with my drivetrain package)

the steels are more rigid and don't seem to bend like the aluminums do. the aluminums are for shedding weight and exclusive track use imho. i broke mine while just riding around the block...no skidding no skipping...just pedaling. i had used them for about 6 months before the left one snapped... i can post a picture later =)

steel is REAL

Christ, I've got an old set of steel Christophe that have survived 25 years on road, single and fixed gear rides.

What the **** are you doing to them?

I recently broke a steel MKS clip too. It broke right at the toe, so it was probably a spot that dragged against the ground here and there over the last year. I'm the second person I know that's had one break in the exact same spot.

I replaced it with some black soma double gates and I can see the powder coat being scraped in the exact same spot.

Good thing I'm about two weeks away from putting the ATACs back on that bike.

i agreee with two years sounds pretty decent. buy another 12 dollar clip set and be happy for two more years.

6 bucks a clip, 3 bucks a year, .25 a month is ok by me.

i've trashed two sets of mks aluminum clips and then switched to steel. no problems then. i think part of the issue came from flexing the clip with different size/shape shoes and eventually the aluminum fatigued and broke.

Do you ride with your feet on the underside of your pedal?
