Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bikes: yes

i've never races cyclocross, but rolling around in the mud sounds like a good time to me.

that's pretty much the foundation of this race series.

Bikes: so many

We did something like this last year. There were something like 4 races and we called them LITs. Like a crit but without the spandex. The format was do a lap, drink a beer, do a lap, drink a beer, fall over.

Man, this sounds like fun! Wish I could make it down. I might just have to put on an event like this up here. Off season, of course.

I've kind of grown out of the alleycat stage of my life, but I'm very drawn to this. It's the first thing that's made me wish I was in NY.

I race fixed cross. If you don't have solid cross skills DO NOT show up to a race on a FG and think the SS racers will be cool when you take someone out. Cross is hard enough to do correct without adding a fixed drivetrain into the mix.

Some of us focus on it 100% and use road, and track as an off season. I guess we're crossies.

you are referring to a normal cross race, not the awesome alleycat x cyclocross collabo throwdown that will be sludgement day.

i hear ya and agree completely when it comes to traditional cross courses. they're usually short laps, lots of bottlenecks, and you spend most of the race in close proximity to other riders. you're responsible for more than just your own safety.

from all i gather these races are gonna be pretty different. the middle two are basically grasstrack (or mud track) and i think everybody's gonna be riding fixed. the first and last are gonna be more like an alleycat with checkpoints etc. so you don't get the 30 or so choke points you'd encounter in a uscf race.

i'm sure an organizer will chime in and explain better. but i think a lot of folks will be riding their track bikes, or maybe something even less appropriate

edit: too slow

This race sounds like a ton of fun and I wish I could be there for it.

My focus on racing is centered around cyclocross ... to fill the spring/summer I'm doing some less technical cross country races on my cyclocross bike, racing a proper mountain bike for others and throwing slicks on the cyclocross bike for road rides with the roadie scum girlfriend.

I'd like to see a set of rollers with a water hazard between each one.

I'm with you guys on this, I was responding to earlier speculation that cross was road snobs on mud. I'm spending this summer ramping up for cross by racing track. I like track racing but just love cyclocross!
My big decision this year is whether or not run gears, I'll be moving up to 3's and we don't have a SS class in Georgia yet.

If it ends up being annual, I'll fly out next year. That's so rad.
