usual speed on single speeds?

I ride 28.5 kph almost ALWAYS. I have NO IDEA why my computer never changes. It also appears that time is somehow standing still, yet I continue to move forward?

***Edit: I just realized that my computer is made from reinforced cardboard. Damn.

My Industrial Cruiser is 44:22, I think- 2:1 at any rate. After you get used to it, it works great, lets you climb reasonable hills and stuff. This is a coaster-brake bike and I believe it would be really irritating to ride on flat land if it was a fixed gear. Top pedaling speed is around 17 mph.
I think the classic Raleigh single-speeds were 46:18 or so, with a 28" tire. And I remember the cruiser bikes I rode as a kid being higher geared than my current one.

I started with a 42-17 (65 gear inches) then moved to a 42-15(74 gear inches). That ratio allows me to climb all the hills I need to get over and still be able to move quickly on the flats.

I started with 40-16, then 44-16 then 44-17 and now 44-15. I like 44-17 the best i think, but I'm still getting used to the 44-15, it's a little stiff for my taste.

I'm riding a 48x17 (78.8 gear inches) but like everyone's saying different strokes for different folks. If my commute weren't so flat I think I'd have to drop the ratio to maybe a 48x18 or so. Wait a minute I think I just replied exactly the same thing to a thread yesterday. Use teh search.

i am riding a 48/19 right now but my buddy suggested i switch to a 17 cog so as not to spin out on hills
i am really feeling the fixed riding...i jumped on my singlespeed to go for a beer run last night and my cranks felt all weird and broken...yucky
at first i was riding it like a fg but then the pedals fell away from me...weirdness
