Superbe for me... and you?

so I just scored an unbelievable deal on a complete 1971 Raleigh Pro Track bike and it has suntour superbe pro cranks and I absolutely love them so far. But I have not heard much buzz about them and was wondering what everyone else thinks of them? I think they are gorgeous and just a great feel to them not to mention light. So tell me your thoughts.

Igneous Faction 04-03-08 11:25 AM

Everyone likes them. Enjoy riding around on your acceptable cranks.

jussik 04-03-08 11:50 AM

pics. or we don't believe you. at all.

sp00ki 04-03-08 11:52 AM

i like them because: 1) they look nice and 2) i've heard they last long.

666pack 04-03-08 11:54 AM

pix or it didn't happen.

Live2Die 04-03-08 12:04 PM

ha, Let me get some up later. but for now there are some very crappy pics found here.

anomaly 04-03-08 02:06 PM

I have Superbe cranks/chainring/bb and a hubset waiting to be built. I love em.

anomaly 04-03-08 02:08 PM

And care to share on your "super great deal"?

Live2Die 04-03-08 02:42 PM

sure. I got the complete bike for $400. Sheldon places the frame around $1000, so I'd say I got a great deal! Heres the low down, full double butted 531, mondia fork, Campy bb headset seat post and rear hub, Cinelli stem and bars, Selle italia TI flite, mavic clincher in the rear, mavic open 4cd laced to mavic 501 in front, superbe pro cranks chain ring and cog. unfortunately it's a bit big for me so it's already up for sale minus the cranks, wheels, saddle, but I may sell the rear wheel once I find a new frame and see if it's 110 or 120.
Anomaly I want to hear what you think of the hubset once it's done I may be interested in one after this experience thus far.

pictures of your bike.

eXCeSS 04-03-08 02:54 PM

hey internet! should i like my cranks or not!? tell me please!!

Live2Die 04-03-08 03:24 PM

yeah thats exactly what I said excess! what an astute observer you are! You know I post here frequently and troll all the time and sometimes I think that people feel that if a thread doesn't turn into some sort of ridiculous attempt to poke fun at a poster they have the right to post for no apparent reason other than to somehow assert their superiority on a topic while at the same time displaying there incredible ability to be a jack ass. Thanks excess for competing this observation of mine and making the world a better place through your highly mature comments it sure is great. Cheers mate!

Ohhhhhhhhhh Snap!!!

andre nickatina 04-03-08 04:01 PM

I want to see this bike, in Eugene.

Live2Die 04-03-08 05:26 PM

Andre it's sitting in my living room right now. I'll probably take it to match sprints if I still have it then but we should meet up and I'll show you. I'm out of town this weekend but next week sometime, we'll set it up.

bonechilling 04-03-08 05:29 PM

You haven't heard much buzz about them because they're expensive cranks that have been out of production for years. I think they're some of the best track cranks ever made, and I have them on my Lemond track bike.

Post pictures.

ricgre 04-03-08 05:30 PM

Superbe components are great. Have them on a 84 Trek 660 and a 84 Schwinn Peloton.

caloso 04-03-08 05:33 PM

The folks on C&V are gaga for Superbe Pro road components. And you know how cranky those *******s can be.

Live2Die 04-03-08 05:55 PM

Well these are not exactly wonderful but here she is. before I put pedals on it. I found a headbadge for it but still need to put it on. I'm gonna be sad to sell it but I'll build up a beauty with the money so it's worth it.

Wait, you're going to sell that? Does it not fit or something?

Live2Die 04-03-08 06:05 PM

yeah it's too big, I hate that it is! you saw the deal I got though so it was simply an investment. even though it's a bit big I can tell you this thing is amazing! my daily driver feels like a tank now :(

bonechilling 04-03-08 06:07 PM

Get leg extensions.

Seriously though, is that bike set up for you? I would think you could lower that post an inch or two and it'd still be "normal."

caloso 04-03-08 06:08 PM

That bike is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

jamey 04-03-08 06:33 PM

gah! $400!!!

parkerlewis 04-03-08 07:00 PM

Great find! Here is a set I had polished a while back....worth doing! I think quite a few track riders in
Japan Keirin prefer/preferred the sugino and dura cranks, although the superbes win $10 in a beauty pageant for sure.
They may have been manufactured by Sugino too, does anyone know for sure?
