Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

My new death trap

Just finished today:
https://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e.../tallframe.jpg

Gonna throw parts on it this evening and take it for a test ride tonight. Luckily, the elevated train runs right by my house (literally 12 feet from my kitchen window), so despite the rain I'll have a dry place to ride.

It'll have a coaster brake and some risers. Can't wait.

Looks like it is going to be a wheelie machine.

Are you using 700c front and back?

i've never actually seen anyone riding a tallbike, so i've always wondered how do you get on them?

like a horse.

left foot on left pedal, use right foot to push it forward and give it a little momentum, swing the right foot over.

That's a pretty standard tallbike problem, the solution is to be careful and/or use a smaller wheel in front. Mine is set up with 26"/20".

I run mine with a 27" rim and 35c tire in the back, and a 700c rim and 28c tire in the front. Flipping the seatpost clamp forward and sliding the saddle all the way forward helps as well. As for getting up and down...

It's 27 rear, 700c front, and yes it's a wheelie machine. Need to get a smaller wheel for the front. Might go silly and get a 20".
