Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I am looking to maybe get a new bike (single spee of course) as i have jsut been hit again with the ss bug. I want to get an all around SS but mainly a commuter, one to go to class/the store/ and work. I am 18 looking for something cheap and thought that the Scott Sportster converted might not be bad. I was thinking of getting one ( i found an '07 Sportster P6 for $199) and adding a Surly singleator, and some bullhorn bars. Anyone have this bike/something similar. Would it suffice for a cheap beater/townie? thanks

Bikes: Bianchi Pista, Bianchi Vigorelli

You could go older and cheaper, Get something with horizontal drop-outs, not need the singleator, and have the option of running fixed or SS.
