Most of the components are crap. That's why the complete bike is only $350.

Define crap, there is a guy who's been using the stock parts for over a year. (edit: couple of years)

I think I can contribute to this topic a bit. I have owned my KiloTT for several years and many, many thousands of miles. I have had a few spills and one minor/major crash into a car witch destroyed the fork (as expected for a track fork with mostly lateral support), but I am still riding on the original rims/hubs/bearings, chain, and crank. Besides stuff that was damaged due to "incidents" or theft it only takes grease and a little bit of care (even the bottom bracket lasted till last year) and a few sets of cheap tires to make this bike reliably perform for a long time! I don't know how much "cred" I would have on this site as a noob, but as someone who has extensively used the made in Taiwan masterpiece I firmly recommend it for anyone. Best $300 I ever spent!!!!

hey, with the frameset, did you guys get an odd fork? i got the 53 and the steerer tube comes out about 3.5 inches out of the top of the head tube. but the weird thing is that the bottom is unthreaded and painted white, but about 3/4 of an inch from the top of the headtube the threading starts, and is about 2 inches long. it doesnt make any sense, because to run threaded i would have to cut it down and rethread it, but to run threadless i would have to run the stem on the threaded part. maybe the bikesdirect guy can shed some light on this? thanks

peabodypride 06-18-08 12:16 PM

yes it's been in every kilo thread for forever. the final solution is to cut down your stem.

They "fit". You'll have to check them often and re-tighten.

Anyone know if the newest batch of Kilos still has the same geo specs as the Mercier page? 53s got a 550mm top tube still?

Yes - I requested the H2O mount
and the geo stays the same

forks are long enough for threaded or unthreaded

Whoops, right at the beginning of the thread.

I am interested in the 53cm black.. the one they still have.. Any one that has built one, what do you need to install the headset? Ive read some on it, but am confused. Do I have to get the fork threaded? I read some people had to get the steer tube cut?

I emailed Jeff at bike island about getting one for a threadless setup, but he said its not possible..

Can someone tell me about their build? We need a sticky for the kilo tt build..

Thanks

user "cc700" is running threadless on his frameset.

I really don't think that is much of an argument. Examples are needed that show that these parts fail (which is the only qualification for "crap" in my book) that can make that statement true. My Motobecane has all of its drive train/fork/wheel comps. from the day I bought it 8 months ago and the thing rides fine with normal upkeep.
Just because something is inexpensive does not bean it is loaded with shaddy parts.

Thank you for sharing this. It's really annoying when people say the need to "upgrade" their bike.

Any idea when these frames bikes will be back in stock?

fmcprint 08-04-08 09:30 AM

i just checked my email

beerslave801 08-28-08 01:10 PM

So does anyone have any feedback on the Jury frames, for $215 that a killer price and a nice looking frame.

itschrisb 08-28-08 01:14 PM

I emailed Bike Island and they said the frames will be in and shipping in the beginning of october. I think he said the 6th.

beerslave801 08-28-08 01:51 PM

oh, cool. so are you affter one of those Jury frames also?

daybreak 08-28-08 01:52 PM

there is a whole thread on the Jury Frame, go search for it.

itschrisb 08-28-08 02:54 PM

OHh noo i was talking about the Kilo Frames not the jury ones. Sorry for the confusion.

Philadelph 09-02-08 04:09 PM
