Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I've got this mountain bike I don't ride too often that I let my one friend borrow a few times so he could run errands around town, but last time he borrowed it the rear tire blew out. Haven't gotten around to changing that.

well, if i had room for something as a designated "lender bike" (quick release seat, adjustable stem, flat pedals) that'd be one thing, but everything i've got it pretty well adjusted for me.

that's for me too. i let two girls at the dining hall ride my tall bike, freewheel no brakes, and they kept doig wheelies. i had to run alongside holding the seattube down.

i have a room in my house full of bikes. one is my track bike, another is my kid's bmx coaster that i like to bust out crazy stuff on.
the rest are schitty mountain bikes that have somehow ended up at my house when people ride them up and leave them (cause i live about a mile from campus). they're all pretty much designated lender bikes cause i don't care about them or even know who owns half of them.

Theres only 3 people I would let borrow my fixed gear, which is a moot point because the rear wheel is cracked right now. I wouldn't let anyone borrow my road bike, period.

I guess I just don't trust 99% of people to not thrash my bike or replace/pay for it if they **** it up.
