Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: 2 fixies, 1 road, 29er in the works.

Last night

I get off the trolley with a mapsonus.com print out in my hand and head out at full speed. My current fix is too small for me and I've heard rumours of a mekka of bikes. Having one by one elminated the thrift shops around me (some @#$#@ on ebay is buying them up and making them into fixes to sell).. I'm on the hunt. 4 miles down the road, and a few red lights.. I'm sweating into my thermal shirt (not eveyone wears jerseys, ok?) profusely.. and I spot it... It's a little run down hole in the wall, and it doesn't even have a neon sign.

Sadly it's already closed, though the hours on the door say it should be open. Great treasures are found in stores like this.

Peering through the window, I see a puzzle of bike frames.. incomplete and dusty. But frame after frame with lugs and long vertical drop outs..

Ideas fly through my head. And the sign on the window says complete bikes 35 dollars and up: I'm sure I'm gonna find one.. or two frames cheap!..

I'm excited. Time to step up!

You are the second person to describe a bike shop with such awe and wonder. Just wait until you actually make it inside the place..
