Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

you might want to post in the "Great Lakes" Regional section of the forums as well, although I suppose you were hoping for fixed-gear riding mates...

Good luck, I've only visited Davenport a few times but spent a year in Iowa City and there were very few fixed-gear riders... and the few I saw were roadie-looking guys (not counting me of course).

From: Cleveland, OH

Bikes: IRO Jamie Roy - fixed / Kona Smoke

None of my friends want to ride with me on geared bikes let alone when I ride fixed gear which is most of the time anymore. From my experience if you ride fixed gear you ride alone.

Its a lonely life, being that ahead of your time.

Ride on Fixie Cowboy, Ride on.

absolutely, shoot me a pm when you're around the area and we'll see what we can do. we've found that the hospital at night is one of the better places to tear through at night.

all the times i spent in dport i only really saw people on bmx bikes, but then again, it is standard country.

i would think being a college town iowa city would have plenty of sweet fixie friends for ya.

I wonder if a person comes across more yellow-and-black bicycles there than on average; it certainly seemed to be true of cars (yellow was the only necessity, most cars have some black detailing).

tell me about it, this place is not exactly bike friendly either.
the person i ride with is not even from around here, he moved over from Minneapolis about 6 months ago.
as for the rest of the kids i know, most of them ride ss ( when i say "most", i actually mean 3 kids)
yeah, the combine numbers of people who ride ss and fixed are about 6; me and my buddy ride fixed, 3 kids ride ss, and one guy i saw while cruising on the bike lane is got a ss/ fixed)
yep, that is about it
