Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Some people on craigslist...

https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/bik/658654551.html

I don't think this is totally outrageous, but I don't know how some people get their asking price. Maybe I have some high standards... I shouldn't even be looking for more bikes. I should be doing my homework. But bikes are better then papers.

Oh well, I just want to see what you guys thought of this.

I've seen way worse. As in basically the same thing as that, but fixed gear, spray painted, one rear Deep Weinnman, $400, firm.

My point exactly. It also pisses me off that he or she mentions the sugino crank and the diacomp brakes, but "forgets" to mention the brand, height, etc. Lame.

Is it just me, or is that brakepad nowhere near the rim?

Also, gotta love the rotten gumwalls!

might just be an perspective-induced illusion due to the bike leaning, but it certainly looks that way: good eye!

Bikes: cannondale f300, surly steamroller

its all about the market! a 20 year old road bike that cost $25 instantly becomes worth $210 as soon as you take off the dérailleurs and chop the bars.

Personally I ride a singlespeed sans breaks so i don't know what you chaps are badgering about
and more gears in the back that dont do anything make the bike go faster,

I have sold similar quality bikes for similar money. Buy in the morning at a garage sale for $5 sell in the afternoon for $200. It is all supply and demand.

Did you see the red conversion with "alloy" everything but no specifics recently for 375?

What ah, you, retahded?

Seriously, the guy wants $200 for a nice old Motobecane frame, Sugino cranks, and some other stuff. What's his crime?

Oh wait, I know -- no top tube protector.

i bet the guy never even rode the bike, just stripped it, put a new chain on it (or cut the old one) and suddenly believed that he could get $205 more for it.

yes, take that, boston craigslist poster.

EDIT: i just realized i tried to steal your thunder, judge_posner, you 7th circuit crazy cat.

i would actually be ok with this guy if he didn't ever ride a bike, because then he is just a straight up businessman. but if he actually think he has the slightest idea what he is doing then i am disappointed in him for ruining an already deteriorating bike community.

the ironic thing is if you get zero miles per gallon it would mean your bike is just a complete gas hog, because for every gallon you poured in, you'd get zero miles out of it... worse than a hummer!

the guy is obviously so dumb he got zero confused with infinity...
