Bike bling - Stems:

For those of you who have money to burn, I came across this....

ahh now if inly they had the brains to make a removable face plate version, so people could change bars without taking off their bar tape.

bexley 05-02-08 08:36 AM

I like how they ask $153 more to polish the thing and don't even show a photo.

So, so stupidly overpriced.

Kind of ugly, too. For an expensive and good-looking stem I'd go for an old quill instead:

In fact, I have.

Painted stem 1 or 2 colors $210.00

Center polished ends painted $244.50

Center painted polished ends $319.50

All polished $363.00
man. $300 lugged steel stem is so backwards it hurts to think about.

What kind of "custom" stem is this if you can't choose the angle? The only option is -15 degrees. Every stem is available in different lengths.

I bet the guy says "I painted this stem, I could paint some more. I'll make a website and see if any suckers will buy them for outrageous prices, and if they do, then I'll slap some paint on a new stem and ship it. If not, then who cares, because I have a real job."

I'd do it.

Nice stem bexley. :) Can't wait to see the finished product.

hanjin 05-02-08 12:24 PM

I have one I bought in Turkey with a matching fork, for like 180.00. The bars were extra.

its not $153 to polish, but to make it out of stainless that is polished... stainless is much more expensive.

This fairly common stem with the magical seal of approval sold for close to $450 on a Japanese auction:

Aren't carbon stems like 100 dollars? I don't know much about materials, but isn't carbon lighter, and much gnarlier than steel?

jdms mvp 05-03-08 09:44 AM

Steel Is Realllll
