OT: rae-fixie's step dad is off limits.

Just an FYI, i got a warning from a mod today. We're no longer allowed to make references to RaeFixie's stepdad.

Figured i'd let everyone know in order to avoid issues.

i wouldn't risk it. I was told you can't make inside jokes anymore; spelling corrections are probably disallowed too.

Eh, this people being offended gets on my nerves a little bit. Come on now, telling on people

Pardon my opining, I think people should become acclimated to this subculture instead of the other way around. Most things are said in jest on this board; if they're really offended by someone, they should PM them first then go tattle tale if the issue isn't resolved/escalates. Can't we all be adults here and freakin' settle things privately? I remember when someone said something offensive in a thread I started, they apologized in a PM almost immediately, that's the kind of maturity and cordiality we should aspire to, I think it was wroomwroom.... whatever happened to him?

Why wouldn't it be? What else is a forum for?
Yeah it's open to everyone and that's half the fun.

It's open to everyone, and when people start filling it with inside jokes and other behavior which excludes people it becomes unwelcoming to new members.

BF is a community and communities are not without rituals, a little teasing here and there isn't bad it initiates them or like I said acclimates them to the e-community. I'm just annoyed with all the complaints that everyone is xenophobic, territorial, or overly harsh, they're not, we're not. It's a forum and believe it or not it may be like a microcosm of the real ssfg world (and the only moderators there are the police you're not going to tell them that someone made fun of your dad or someone called you stupid). I understand that when people are difficult, conflict may arise; I'm just saying people should man up and deal with their e-conflicts with civility and not just go reporting without some dialogue between the offender and offended party. Maybe, someone will find out- IT WAS ALL IN FUN?

you're missing the point entirely.
raefixie didn't complain-- he hates his stepdad. that's how the joke started.
the problem was a clueless mod "warning" me because she felt the inside joke could be construed as offensive. she then went on to tell me that if i love bike forums and ss/fg, i should let brian or whoever else completely change it for the better (see the irony there?).

it was so dumb i had to start a thread about it.

Why share your private jokes about family on a public board about bicycles? To top it off you get into a huff when others don't understand your private joke. WTF?

yeah, you're right. the fact that like fifteen regular users shared in the joke is completely irrelevant.

You seem to be missing the point that there are way more than 15 regular visitors to this private site which isn't your personal clubhouse.

I'm not the one crying when a big bad mod deletes a post on an internet forum. Is this like real life to you or something? You seem to take it really seriously.

Do you not agree that SS/FG can be improved?

Do you not love BikeForums and SS/FG?

You have a golden opportunity here to make BikeForum's SS/FG forum the best one around. If you don't want to do that, then plenty of members here have offered you to the opportunity to join them elsewhere.
