Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bikes: Surly Cross-Check, '85 Giant road bike (unrecogizable fixed-gear conversion

Happens when I have a really bad cough due to a cold, allergies or an upper respiratory infection.

Can also be due to a diet of nothing but canned beets, red vines, and cherry soda.

Yeah, don't get TB.

It's more likely to be from bleeding gums or a nosebleed, particularly if don't have chest symptoms like a cough or shortness of breath etc. It sometimes happens to me as I get nosebleeds fairly easily if the air is dry in the room I'm sleeping in.

If you're concerned about this at all, get it checked out if it persists, even if just for your piece of mind.

Bikes: 1980 Schwinn Le Tour

you'll know when you have TB.

probably just some residual nosebleed / dry throat.

.. unless you're a chain smoker, cokehead, or alcoholic.
my cousin used to drink so much that he started vomiting blood.
...
yeah, don't do that.

Sometimes, it's worth checking with the doctor just so you don't have to wonder.

My pops is a respiratory therapist. This word is very very normal to me.

If the blood in the mucus keeps up for the next few days, definitely see a doctor.

Bikes: 2004 Norco Wolverine (Blue) set up with Semi-Slicks. Mid-1970's Raleigh, converted to single seed, (soon to be) all white.

could be scabbing in your throat. Have you had a really bad cold/throat infection lately?

I had that happen to me once, and I spat blood and scabs for a few weeks.

OT addition to the OT thread:

Drink lots of water on flights. I didn't and now I feel like I'm coughing up organs. You can catch anything around you in an instant if your mucus membranes aren't hydrated--which is why chain-smokers get sick all the time. Don't smoke chain.

The humidity level was the lowest I'd ever felt on a long haul flight (apparently it can vary between 5-35%). Wtf? Air travel sucks.
