Onguard is the new Krypto. They've been proven to be tougher to break, crack, cut etc. It's cheaper as well.

Check out any of the annual Cycling Plus lock tests and you'll find that you are mistaken.

Have any of you tried this?

Looks cool but flimsy.

It's okay for quick lock-ups in low theft areas. They are known to be defeated rather easily by determined thieves.

Yet, why doesn't the NY Fahgettaboudit U lock get any play? Appears to be the same size as the Evo Mini. Is it overkill?
The NYFU has a much larger shackle than the Evo, is heaver, and also is much more difficult to defeat. If it's overkill depends on where you lock up.....

got proof?
I'm interested.

I have yet to see "cycling plus" do a side by side comparison of the two brands.

Then you haven't read their reviews. Check out the May 2007 issue for side by side tests of Kryptonite and Onguard U-locks.

EDIT: Onguard goes by the name "Magnum" in the UK.

Bulldog mini ftw! It's such a good deal... $25-30 with a chain.

my experience so far with fahgettaboudit has been great. its got some girth for a mini lock but is much more secure than any other. its expensive at retail and even fairly pricey on sale, but im happy with the $40 i got it for. im not quite dressed the typical fixed gear part and 5 loose pounds swinging around is out of the question. theres no kryptonite lock holder for this size so i lock it under my seat, but i might check out home depot and try to put something together for it. the bills and the mass are what you pay for top tier security. the security reviews of this compared to other locks speak volumes for this locks strength, and its actually quite light considering the security it provides. my locale has a lot of magic disappearing bikes, but no matter where i lock up i can forget about it when this is on.

Is that the outside diameter or the inside diameter? If it's the outside, it *should* fit, right?

Also, how did you get the fahgettaboudit for only $40?

i dont have it right now, but i think its the inside diameter because id say the nyf is more than a tad bigger overall. i think attaching the nyf to ones body isnt really the best way to carry it for many. i got the lock on ebay, but im sure some shops will have similar sales around now.

i've got a fahgeddaboudit. it's ridiculously heavy, but i can actually fit the u through the frame and front wheel on a signpost and a few other lockup spots. otherwise i just lock up through the frame only and don't let it out of my site for too long

it's probably overkill, i really dont hear about many bikes stolen by way of the shackle in a u lock cut off around richmond

I drop one arm of my mini-U through my belt in FRONT of the belt loop on my hip and lock it up. I got paranoid about it falling out of my back pocket, and it was just plain uncomfortable, I also found tossing both arms through the back of my belt made my pants way too tight without re-adjusting my belt.

The reason it's in front of the hip belt loop is because I find gravity pulls it down, and behind the loop, it ends up right in the middle of my ass whenever I get out of the saddle, which is a figurative and literal pain in the ass. If it's in front of the loop it ends up just sitting on my side, out of harms way.

Or sometimes I just toss it in my bag.
