Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Unless you ghettofix the old hub and respace/redish it you'll have to change the bb if the chainline is way off from 42mm(standard chainline on fixed hubs).Check out sheldonbrown.com for info on conversions.

Bikes: 2006 Windsor Dover w/105, 2007 GT Avalanche w/XT, 1995 Trek 820 setup for touring, 201? Yeah single-speed folder, 199? Huffy tandem.

Standard chain line for road double cranks is 41mm for the inner chainring and 46mm for the outer ring. On some inner rings, the teeth are offset to the inside from the plane of the chainring. Turning it around so it offsets to the outside will bring the teeth closer to 42mm.
