Old Sugino Information?

I picked up a crankset at work today for next to nothing (yay "junk" bins). It's clearly meant for track use, 48T, 1/8" and 165mm. The only identifying things besides the usual crankarm junk is "Sugino No. 3". Theres some more details to it, such as the peculiar chainring mounting. It appears to have a riveted chainring, but the spider says 46-48T, implying the ring capacities? I haven't bothered to measure the BCD yet, as I haven't even figured out how to change the rings yet. I'd post photos, but I'd rather prefer information on this Sugino No. 3 as a whole.

Edit: xposted in C&V too

It's late. Tomorrow morning, hopefully. If I have enough time before graduation practice.

It's got a black bashguardish thing built in, and that has sections that are machined a la machined rims.

Maybe it's just meant for general single speed (cruiser, commuter) use.

But 165mm? Theres also some sort of logo on the crankarm that I can't figure out. It says JS, and it forms a sort of circle design. The bottom of the J flows into the S, and the top of the J then leads right into the right half of the circle, and the bottom of the S flows up into the left half.

I'm pretty sure it's not NJS.

Tis JIS, the japanese industrial standard. Means the cranks are jis tapered, not ISO.

So, Shimano bottom bracket? Gotcha. They make ones short enough for track use? (I'm too lazy to look that up right now)

Definitely looks like some generic cruiser/budget bike cranks. Especially since the chainring doesn't seem removable.

Then why the 46-48? That's what doesn't make any sense to me.

46-48 could be the ring sizes that the bash guard will support.

I agree. But the chainring is riveted so it's not designed to accept a different size/new one.

It's called "swaged." But yes, definitely budge.

Oh well, I guess these will work in a pinch. Eventually I'm ordering a set of Omniums at dealer price.
