Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I wrote that because most bike shops will try to assume that you did something out of the ordinary to ruin the product and when it comes to these bikes I'm sure the manufacturer didn't spec the bike to do tricks or skids. Either way I'm sure even if the LBS messed up, the bike is 2 days old like you mentioned so take it back to them and use whatever warranty should have come with it. If it didn't come with one kick yourself in the ass for that one, its the sole purpose of buying a bike locally.

thats lame your LBS charged you to tighten the cog/lr. Mine did it for free numerous times and even switched cogs and lock rings twice in one day for free on two wheels.

Yeah, agreed. The problem is that the wheelset is aftermarket; that's why I had the LBS install and tighten the cog and lock ring in the first place -- I didn't want to buy a $25 chainwhip and a $15 lock ring wrench, and opted to pay $5 dollars for what I thought was a job that even a 9 year old could accomplish. Unfortunately, these were 9-year-old chimpanzees from an incestuous tribe that was recently imported from a remote island.

Lesson learned: buy your own f***ing tools.

or, if you have a number of friends interested in cycling and/or wrenching, just have a "collective" within your own crew and lend out tools inbetwixt yourselves. thats what my friends and i do. i probably only own 85% of the tools i need, but between friends and that 85% i never need to go to the shop save for picking up new parts.
