I'm 100 pounds more than you, just getting on the bike probably hurts it more than you riding it off of a cliff, I do thousands of miles on it each year and it's needed truing all of once. Relax, you can't hurt 'em unless the wheel was built poorly.

probably not tensioned and stressed prior to your first ride. This seems like a problem with a lot of machine built wheels, or a wheelbuilder who didnt take the time to properly stress the wheels and retension prior to giving it to you. Let me guess...when you first took it out, did you hear a bunch of "pinging/creaking" from your wheels?

yes i did.

yea dood, the person who built it didn't stress relieve it. so he's either a newbie or just really busy and had a bad day. just take it back and tell them it wasn't built right.

But what about your face?

Amazingly my face, head/helmet, bike, and bag with a laptop and digital camera were all mostly unscathed. Though, aside from torn bartape, I did leave a majority of my left hand knuckles on the pavement.

Some dink pulled through a bike lane suddenly trying to nose into a parking spot. I had only taken my gloves off for few blocks I was riding down to eat dinner after stopping to buy a mattress after work. I gave up waiting for the police to come to give a report 45 minutes after the ambulance had already left. Lesson is, don't get hit by a car on a Friday night in San Francisco and, like your helmet, always wear gloves. ;)

Then it should be a 15 min fix if that. Just get it back to them asap before it starts looking like user error.
