Deep v bent in 1 hour :/

newly built velocity Deep v became out of wack in only 1 hour of easy riding wtf! is this normal? (rear rim) 32H,DT 2.0/1.8 spokes, brass nips, miche hub,Velocity deep v, all new parts. :( not bent, but def out of true.

rickyaustin 06-08-08 03:55 PM

Is it bent, or out of true?

diff_lock2 06-08-08 04:02 PM

Impossible. Don't you know they freeze those rims.

Also we need moar info. hub, spoke count, tension. everything.

And that is not normal for ANY wheel, even wood rim based wheels.

peabodypride 06-08-08 04:04 PM

I'd say it's probably normal if you didn't tension it properly... or at all.

Judge_Posner 06-08-08 04:11 PM

Not stressed properly during the building process? It may have looked true after building, but as soon as you put weight on it, the spokes/nipples settle into their holes and into each other, causing rim to go out of true. I'd guess that if you retrue it, it will stay true longer this time b/c you just stressed it during your 1 hour ride.

johnprolly 06-08-08 04:19 PM

blame the wheel builder, not the product. My deep v rear has been built to 3 different hubs and has over 6 big dents in it. It's still true.

yonderboy 06-08-08 04:51 PM

Just put it in the freezer for an hour or so.

anomaly 06-08-08 04:53 PM

**** wheel builder

~Stuart~ 06-08-08 04:58 PM

my freezer wouldn't fit a whole wheel.

aaawwww i see what you mean, just fold it then it will fit (you can fold a wire bear tire, why would a rim be different?)

:D

the new deep vs are made of a polymix of alloys and plastic.

dervish 06-08-08 05:04 PM

this doesnt make sense to me...maybe you were hit by a car while you werent paying attention

bdfresh 06-08-08 05:25 PM

maybe pictures or even a video would help us help you

pirate 06-08-08 05:40 PM

Sounds like whoever built your v's sucks. I bought a deep v/formula wheel from a bike coop and the builder failed to properly tension or stress relieve it. After 10 miles, it felt like I was riding on a flat tire, so I pulled off to the sidewalk to check my wheel (I was in the midst of racing in an alleycat, btw). The tire was still at 120 psi but at least half the spokes were so loose that I could unscrew the nipples with my fingers. I just returned it and got my money back. Sucks for her, that rim is probably all f'd up now.

you BENT A DEEP-V??? this is NOT POSSIBLE FOR HUMANS

na975 06-08-08 08:41 PM

correction, i meant out of true, sorry bout that. this is my first deep v rim, i had a reputable shop here in the city build the wheel for me from all new components, DT 2.0/1.8 spokes, brass nips, miche hubs, new rim. this shop has built many wheelsets mostly Mavic open pro's,cpx22's without even a hickup! So i'm guessing box type rims build up stronger than a Deep v? i'll bring it back and let them true it over again tomorrow. If it goes out of whack in a short time again i'll be done with it!

Cynikal 06-08-08 10:51 PM

If it is out of true after an hour of easy riding it's the build. Just take it back and have the builder go over the tension. Everyone has a off day, I'm sure they will make it right.

These people are just trying to spare you your ego. The truth is, you are incredibly obese and as a fat land monster in total denial, unfit to ride anything resembling a bicycle, ever.

But hey, I heard they got a *****in sale going on at the Honda dealership.

evoke0ne 06-09-08 07:24 AM

Well....Come to think of it...I got my neighbour to true my wheel once, he didnt know what he was doing...I rode for 10km and it just collapsed. It is very likely that the wheel was not build properly. That would mean what happened to your wheel would be like what happened to mine. Riden too much while all the spokes were out of true would cause it to do that. Just go take it back to where you bought it...and tell them that you rode for how ever far you did...and then tell them to re-build it.

moz138 06-09-08 11:47 AM

i bent one the other day at the skate park where i was doing my 360 back flips, and tailwhips at. luckily the park had some tools to fix it so that i could continue on learning gumbys, dumptrucks, and numerous other flatland, and street tricks.

fetch 06-09-08 12:52 PM

i don't believe in off-days. if you are too busy to do the job right, set it aside for later. personally a screw up like that i wouldn't go back there, granted there are like 4 bike shops within my town.

i want a wheel to ride, not a errand to run the next day

roblee 06-09-08 03:45 PM

probably not tensioned and stressed prior to your first ride. This seems like a problem with a lot of machine built wheels, or a wheelbuilder who didnt take the time to properly stress the wheels and retension prior to giving it to you. Let me guess...when you first took it out, did you hear a bunch of "pinging/creaking" from your wheels?

na975 06-09-08 05:28 PM

i only weigh 150ish, but i did a few lil skip stops~ do u think skips might have punished the wheel a bit?

not at all.

K_phomma 06-09-08 06:31 PM

Do you have risers? Those things will bend deep vs

I got hit by a car, I was paying attention, the driver wasn't. Either way my Deep Vs are still true. They are also really heavy. But I think they were that way before I got by the car.
