question about: pake and iro

i already tried using the search and looked at the threads and none of them helped or answered my question.
my dad is planning on buying me a bike frame and then he said i could get started from there.
the only problem is that i'm pretty short i'm about 4'11 1/2" so i have a hard time finding a frame.
I ride a 49 cm schwinn caliente now and it feels pretty crammed.
i looked at the iro and it said that I should get the heidi frame and the pake the smallest is only 49 cm.
do you think that i should go to a bike shop and get fitted first or just go buy what the website says?
this would be my first fixed gear bike

hope you guys can answer my question
thanks

You have to pay. Why would an LBS take the time to fit you for something you aren't going to buy from them?

^^ righto.

excellent way to permanently get on the bad side of your LBS.

edit: and most shops I've gone to don't even do free fittings for bikes under $1000.

See if the shop you're ordering the frame from does fittings.

Take your crucial body measurements, then call Tony at IRO and ask his advice. He designed them... he should know best. (he is not the easiest to get on the phone, but keep trying; you'll get him to answer).

As for Pake, no idea.

or go to a Wal Mart Store (WMS) and buy a measuring tape from the sewing dept and take your own measurements.

____asdfghjkl 06-10-08 02:04 PM

hahaha

____asdfghjkl 06-10-08 02:27 PM

oh yeah how do i figure out the gear ratio?

Hofweber 06-10-08 02:45 PM

that is your own call.

parkr 06-10-08 09:57 PM

i saw a school kid riding a pake yesterday. it looked like a preetty cool bike. i wondered if he built it up from scratch as it's offered frame only on their website.

+1 for a pake.

and get yourself measured first.

cizzlak 06-10-08 10:10 PM

look what google can find when you search "bike fitting"

http://www.cyclemetrics.com/Pages/Fi..._fit_links.htm

whodathunk?

idiq 06-11-08 07:12 AM

If you're that short, I'd get a 44cm. That will be hard to find, yes, but worth it.

Also, I think people are talking about 'fitting' differently. If you want to jump on a fit-cycle and get all the measurements you'll need (if you never grow another inch) then drop ~$150+ for that. A fit-kit is slightly less expensive. If you simply want to test ride different sizes, feel different seat heights, etc, then any shop will do that.

jlin 06-11-08 09:59 AM

i've heard of lbs's offering free fitting. fyi, they say the right tt length is the most important part of fit (not that the other specs aren't as well), and i agree.
