FG conversion cost estimate?

I need to purchase a White Industries ENO hub and have it laced up to an old but still very functional (Matrix, circa 1990) road wheel. Throw in a 16t fixed cog and chain. Any idea what I can expect an LBS to charge for all this? Just trying to guage whether this is worth pursuing. The frame, fork, wheels and all other major components on this bike are all in excellent condition.

Thanks.

Call the LBS and ask.

If I said not much you'd ask how much is that and then I'd say something like $25-40 a wheel to build it up is normal and then you'd go like no way! I ain't payin' that and then I'd go whatever and then everyone else would jump in with ninja wisdom and you'd insult someone's coffee and then all hell would break loose so just call up some LBS and ask them.

bbattle is right! $25-40 is standard price to build a wheel. shops figure approx 1 hour labor per wheel.

the cost of cog/lockring and chain are up to you.

LBS is quoting $290-$340 depending on whether using existing or new rim, to include ENO hub, cog, chain and labor.

get a new LBS

nah, any LBS worth its time and salt in a high-demand large economy area will charge about the same. the ENO hub is not cheap.

I'd say go a different route and use a chain tensioner, unless your current hub sucks.

So, like:

$160 - Hub
$20 - chain
$20 - cog
$40 - Spokes and nipples
$50 - Labor

or something like that? You might be able to find better by a bit, call around if it matters, go with it if they've been your shop for a while will continue to be for a bit. Maybe I'm crazy, but that seems reasonable.

Very good! You are within $10 on each item. Thanks to all for the input!
