I think that's the largest available, unless you were to ask her politely:

There are a lot of characteristics of the stereotypical hipster that I share. Most of the things I am match up side by side. But I don't think I'm a hipster....am I**********? www.myspace.com/iloveaerosmith

I mean: vegetarian, love to read, love organic/fair trade coffee, I've toured in a punk rock band, liberal, like bikes, have been part of a "micro-culture" since high school (subculture is too belittling)

^ that stuff makes me sound like a jackass!!! But I think I'm a respectable guy.

seriously though, the clothing style is mad homogenized son. no one wants to be labeled. hopefully in 10yrs the television shows won't make fun of the generation. many people have succumbed to elaborate forearm ink, with coins in their ears and what have you. these things will be surefire sore thumbs and indicate to those of us that held out, that the man with the ephemeral junk on his arm once tried to be an individual by sweating other individuals and is-as a result-not an individual. white people are so weird. this time is just like disco, man... leave the cool to my black brothers and i and to the james dean characters and a select few puerto ricans. if things are cool, it means you have to be concerned that things could potentially be hot. right? i don't like the police, but those dudes love to pick me up, take my photo, do my fingerprints all that ****. you ain't gangster because you mowed the lawn and got a wheelset with under 6 spokes, son. you're gangster because you're gangster. and if you were gangster, probably, you would secretely wish you were less gangster/more white so you could score a lady with some manners. if you want to be gangster, you're not gangster son. if you try to be cool, you might as well be a narc.

like i say, most peoples are just zombies and copycats, son.

ditto. This guy knows what he is talking about. Who cares what people look like. It's about riding a bike, and enjoying a hobby/past time/sport/whatever you want to call it, with people.

Love your Christopher Hitchens quote.

As for the hipster thing, I think Sartre summed it up best. "Two people can come from the same back ground, have the same job, and live the same lives. However, one may have an existentialist perspective, while the other does not. Therein, the difference between them lies."

The same thing is true with the so called "hipster" crowd. On the surface, two people may appear to be very much the same...

Stereotypical Hipster Has:
Facial hair
a cap (not a hat)
rolled up pant leg
bandanna around neck
lots of opinions about society
ironic T-shirt (small)
one or two tats
an oldschool record player
a lot of interest in music, and "finding" bands
...a fixed gear

Do you rollerblade now?

ZiP0082 08-08-08 01:51 PM

Thanks man. I dig your signature!

I would agree with you there. I guess it all boils down to principle and morality; not what's superficial.

haha really tho that picture is pretty.

i find it strange that any subculture/scene that receives exposure & gains traction with news media outlets will inevitably cannibalize it's own. Skateboarding, hip-hop, punk/hardcore, 80's revivalism, they all eventually eat their young. I understand why, no one wants to see their clique get co-opted by the masses, and poseurs abound everywhere. Still, it would be good to see people not sweating this stuff so much. One more bike, even if it's only for 6 months or a year, is still better than nothing at all, right?

f1x1e 08-09-08 06:38 PM

Hipster huh? Scenester that's the ****. I live in SF and they are everywhere but hey SF is one of the original fixed, messenger (original), scene riding city's. It really doesn't matter you ride a bike and have fun. I ride an IRO (cause they are the best for me) and I own deep V's because they are damn good rims (I ran into a taxi at 30mph and my deep V's are still true). I am trendy as **** but I really don't care a bit. haha and like that someone once said, hipster is in the eye of the beerholder!
