Bareknuckle Build Up Help Thread
So my lbs is gonna order me the frame this week so it's time to start working out the parts. Trying to go with black components. Frame and tires are gonna be blue.

Drive Train: Crank - TruVativ's Omnium crank 48 t (165 ? not sure on length) BB - TruVativ Giga X Pipe English Cupset (also thinking of the sugino 75 because I can get it in black, if I go go sugino not sure what bb to get) Cog - 17t (74.2 - 17 skid patches) or 18t (70.1 - 3 skid patches) dura ace 1/8 cog DA Lockring (already have it) Pedals - Gr-9's (already have them) Toe Clips - Soma Oppy-XX Four-Gate Toe Clips Wheels: Blacked out - Fusions / Formula (already have them) Other: 1 1/8 Threadless Stem - Suggestions ? - length 100? (I guess I will have a better idea when I get the frame) prefer black Headset - Suggestions ? prefer black thinking something cane creek (no chris king bling) update: Cane Creek S-6 1-1/8” Threadless Headset - on sale at nashbar now Bar - Nashbar tt bar 26.0mm clamp diameter (already have it) Seat post - Nashbar Carbon Fiber Seatpost 27.2mm Saddle - San Marco Regal (already have) --- thx! |

still looking for stem suggestions |
go with an eai cog. DA only go up to 16T. Also the soma clips hurt your feet with certain shoes so take that into account. What are you doing about straps?
|
Really the only benefit to EAI is the black coloring and the price. They are more expensive most of the time, and really... offer no benefit over anything else. Ten years ago an EAI cog would be worth $5.
|
ai which shop did you order through in Guelph?

As for straps I was gonna get 2 sets of single black leather straps from urbane cyclist in Toronto (forget the make), I saw them there last time for $10 bucks. I don't want to drop the cash on toshis. Right now I am using white record campy straps I found in a parts bin. I will look around to see if I could find a cheap thomson, I just figured I couldn't find one for anything near that price that ships to Canada. Any suggestions? And are their any advantages to the set back ones? |
A few things: I like the Cane Creek SoLos headset in black more than the Chris King. EAI cogs are nice and quiet on my bikes, while surly and DA are noisy. Phil is the best in my opinion - totally smooth. Also... Sugino 75 in black and a sugino 75 BB is a great combo.
|
sugino 75 crank/BB agree. I'd go with the Dura-Ace cog as it comes in all black as well as the Dura-Ace lockring. Chris king headset for sure. that's waht i'd do.
oh and please get some build pics up ASAP. i think i speak for everyone when i say we'd love to see build pics and lots of them. |
pretty similar to my bike...

^^^ Nice bike!
Ok I found a wicked shop with great prices somewhat near me, that said I think I am gonna go: Headset - Cane Creek Solos Headset 1-1/8” Threadless Black - $55 BB- Truvativ GXP Team Sealed BB Cup Assembly Cups Only 68/73mm, English - $44 Crankset -Truvativ Omnium Track Crankset w/o Cups 165mm 48T Super Aluminum Finish - $187 Post - Thomson Elite Seatpost 27.2 x 410mm Black - $73 (they also have the 330 for $63, not sure which to get) Stem - Thomson X2 Road Stem 1-1/8” 100mm X -17° 31.8mm Black $50 I am wondering if I should get the 110 mm ($76) stem due to the -17 degree drop angle. Trying to get near this fit on a 53 tube top: http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/4897/fitrv3.jpg 100 or 110?? The reviews I read of the crankset are why I am choosing it over the expensive sugino 75. Lighter, stiffer, sturdier, much cheaper beats out colour matching this time unless anyone can explain otherwise why the 75 is worth the extra cash... The chris kings just seem too pricey for what they are. Also what can I do for bars? Looks like my old tt bar wont fit, who makes bullhorns that do? |
Who Is Selling Omniums In Canada For $187?
|
I think the Profile T2 bars are 31.8, not sure.
I would go with a Ritchey WCS headset, it's got the same bearings as a King but without the name. I would say 'quality' too, but since King is made in the US people will argue the King quality is higher. Don't feel like that right now. Same with stem - I would get a Ritchey WCS stem. An older one will do just fine, you can find them for pretty cheap. They DO make the newer WCS 4-axis in 26 diameter. The stem will be a lot lighter than the Thomson. The Ritchey also doesn't have such a big shift in +/- angles, but if you need a taller stem, the Thomson should work. |

The Thomson Elite is the baddest stem out there.

Ya I will stick with the solo.
As for the stem I am looking around at reviews. The weight difference between stems like the thomson and ritchey are only 40 grams or 0.088 pounds (in my bucks not noticibe). I also kinda like the idea of matching post to stem although not really that important. The site I am looking at also has the thomson in in 10 degreee. Won't a raise stem with bullhorns look weird? Also still requesting advice on getting the 100 or 110 in the -17 and 100 or 110 10 degree stem. thanks for all the help guys :D |

You'd get the Thomson X-2 road, not the elite. Not my choice, but not my bike. They're all OS though.

The road version has the printing the other way. See... http://www.treefortbikes.com/imgDsp....omsonelite.jpg |

Cant go wrong with either. I like the boxy-ness of the Elite. |
ive got a thomson mtb stem on my bareknuckle, with os risers, super stiff and suprisingly light! I just got a thomson seatpost as well. best things Ive gotten for my Bareknuckle other than my phils. love it! I ordered a road stem for use with track drops, to see how those are to ride. cant get any stiffer....and nicer looking!
|
i snagged an unused syntace F99 for like 30 bucks on ebay a month ago, maybe you can get one too?
p.s. the thompson one is teh secks (sexy) edit: someone PM'd me and thought i said thompson sucks, but i meant they are good :) |
